This geographical 'smile curve' symbolizes the thriving trend of China's ice and snow economy based on resource endowment and regional synergy. Jilin Province, as a strategic pivot at the eastern end of the curve, has shown significant innovation vitality and development enthusiasm in ice and snow practice. From a geographical perspective, the Jilin direction on the "Ice and Snow Smile Curve" is a collaborative development belt that connects the core ice and snow resource areas in the north. It breaks free from the limitations of one city, one place, and outlines a coordinated development belt for the ice and snow economy at the national level, characterized by resource aggregation, complementary advantages, and market linkage. Jilin Province's position value is mainly reflected in three aspects. One is the core node of natural endowment and industrial foundation. Especially in the Changbai Mountain area, it has world-class "powder snow" resources and unique rime climate landscapes, with excellent snow quality, long snow period, and suitable climate, laying the innate advantages for the development of high-quality skiing and ice and snow tourism industry. This makes Jilin Province an indispensable high-quality ice and snow resource supply and experience destination on the "smile curve". The second is the key hub for domestic collaboration and market linkage. Jilin Province is located at the geometric center of Northeast Asia, with Heilongjiang to the north, Inner Mongolia to the west, Liaoning to the south, and Beijing Tianjin Hebei to the south. Under the collaborative framework of the "smile curve", Jilin can share the Northeast ice and snow source market with Heilongjiang, Liaoning, and Mongolia, as well as jointly develop Winter Olympics heritage linkage products with Hebei, becoming an important channel connecting the Bohai Rim market with the ice and snow resources in the Northeast hinterland. Its development level directly affects the overall vitality of the eastern section of the curve. The third is an international ice and snow gateway facing East Asia. From 2024 to 2025, during the ice and snow season, the number of inbound tourists and consumption in Jilin Province will increase by 43% and 36% respectively year-on-year, with over 80% of inbound tourists choosing high-end hotels. Among them, countries and regions such as South Korea, Malaysia, and Russia have become core overseas customer markets. This impressive performance is steadily consolidating its position as a hub and gateway for ice and snow tourism in East Asia, injecting significant international color and development extension into the "Ice and Snow Smile Curve". The characteristic experience of Jilin's ice and snow economy. The author recently conducted research and found that the ice and snow economy in Jilin Province has surpassed the traditional tourism model and presented a development feature of systematic innovation and deep integration. Its practical experience can be summarized into the following five points. One is the integration of "ice and snow+super IP" culture and tourism, activating the youth consumption and parent-child market. Jilin Province actively explores the combination of external cultural IP and local resources to effectively expand customer base boundaries. For example, Changchun Fenxue Carnival has introduced the national IP "Egg Party" with over 500 million users, creating a themed real-life snow park. Through scene restoration, interactive performances, and derivative consumption, it has successfully attracted a large number of young families and parent-child customers. This "IP+Ice and Snow" model lowers the cognitive threshold for ice and snow experiences, creates new consumption scenarios with high social attributes and dissemination, and is an effective strategy for acquiring incremental markets. The second is to create an immersive narrative through "ice and snow+historical revitalization", achieving differentiated development and industrial upgrading. Taking "Changbai Mountain · Jin 1172" as an example, by transforming academic research into immersive entertainment and consumption scenes, the project has formed a sustainable landing mechanism and commercial model for historical and cultural development, effectively avoiding homogeneous competition with products from other provinces on the "smile curve". More importantly, it demonstrates how to extend the value chain of the ice and snow industry through high value-added content production, providing a clear path reference for the regional ice and snow economy to upgrade from resource dependence to cultural drive. The third is "Ice and Snow+Ecological Protection and Cultural Inheritance", which provides a model for sustainable development of the ice and snow economy. For example, Jinjiang Wooden House Village in Fusong County, Baishan City represents the path of valuing original cultural heritage and natural ecological protection in the ice and snow economy. It did not build a large-scale amusement park, but mainly attracted a segmented customer group who pursued local cultural exploration and in-depth photography by preserving the style of wooden settlements and snow village living scenes intact. The core of this model is to adhere to the principle of conservation priority and appropriate utilization, make ice and snow resources become the natural background to set off the local original culture, and establish a practical example of coordination between cultural protection and tourism development with authenticity as the core. Fourthly, "ice and snow+culture" empowers vacation upgrading and creates high-quality lifestyle destinations. At the magnificent resort of Changbai Mountain, the path of transformation from a single skiing destination to a comprehensive resort is clearly demonstrated. The highlight is not the simple increase in the number of ski trails, but also the systematic creation of cultural scenes. Especially by introducing high-quality cultural and artistic content such as concerts, Chinese tourism bookstores, and cross-border art exhibitions, the destination has been upgraded from a single ski resort to a "four season vacation lifestyle" space, significantly extending tourists' stay time and consumption chain. The fifth is the introduction of "ice and snow+policy innovation" to introduce characteristic snow holidays and focus on cultivating the public's ice and snow consumption habits. In early December 2025, Jilin Province will take the lead in launching a "snow vacation" program for primary and secondary school students, which will be accompanied by family discounts and employee vacation incentives. On the first day of the "snow holiday", the reception volume of key ice and snow tourism areas in the province significantly increased, and some ski resort reservations were saturated in advance. During the same period, the popularity of tourism products increased more than six times. This institutional design not only drives consumption in the short term, but also cultivates sustainable consumer groups and consumption patterns for the ice and snow economy in the medium and long term by creating stable participation scenarios, reflecting policy innovation that leverages market demand through time planning. From the summary of the future prospects of Jilin's ice and snow economy, Jilin Province already has a solid foundation to leap from a major ice and snow province to a strong ice and snow province. Based on the current hot situation and the strategic background of the "Ice and Snow Smile Curve", its future development can be systematically planned from a higher position, focusing on the following four dimensions. Firstly, deepen inter provincial cooperation and move from a "geographical arc" to a "development community". Jilin Province can strengthen its hub function at the eastern end of the "smile curve", actively leading the design of linkage products and unified actions with neighboring provinces and regions such as Heilongjiang, Liaoning, Mongolia, and Hebei. For example, collaborating with Liaoning to create a "Powder Snow Hot Spring" health preservation journey, connecting with Hebei Winter Olympics heritage development to develop "skill training and venue experience" research and learning products, and jointly planning the "Forest Sea Snow Plain" ecological crossing route with Inner Mongolia. Through cross regional route integration, joint marketing, and customer source exchange mechanisms, we promote market expansion and brand building, transforming geographical connectivity advantages into substantial economic synergy benefits, and enhancing the competitiveness and brand appeal of the entire "Ice and Snow Smile Curve". Secondly, to develop in conjunction with the summer economy and improve the new industrial pattern of "ice and snow leading, four season prosperity". The key to solving the fundamental challenge of strong seasonality in the ice and snow economy lies in promoting industrial integration and full-time operation. In the future, Jilin Province will sustainably expand the extension of "ice and snow+" and promote the deep integration of ice and snow with health preservation, academic research, exhibition, leisure agriculture, and other fields. The focus is on utilizing the ecological advantages of areas such as Changbai Mountain to systematically develop mountain outdoor, forest health, summer vacation and other business formats in spring and summer, achieving year-round utilization of infrastructure and brand value, and smoothing seasonal fluctuations in business operations. Thirdly, establish a solid industrial foundation and improve the high standard, specialized, and intelligent support system for the ice and snow industry. One is to improve infrastructure and service standards, especially in areas such as transportation connections, safety supervision, emergency assistance, and international multilingual services, and establish a high standard system to ensure the experience and safety of tourists; Secondly, we will strengthen the construction of a localized professional talent pool and systematically cultivate the urgently needed operational management, technical coaching, and marketing service talents in the ice and snow industry; The third is to promote the deep integration of technology, actively apply digital and intelligent technologies to improve management efficiency, innovate tourist experiences (such as intelligent guidance, virtual rehearsals, etc.), and inject new momentum into the high-quality development of the industry. Fourth, strengthen innovation demonstration and output replicable models and standards. As an innovative and active area on the "smile curve", Jilin not only needs to develop itself, but also shoulder the responsibility of exploring the path and exporting experience for the national ice and snow economy. In the future, we can systematically summarize its successful practices in areas such as "IP+ice and snow", "historical revitalization+tourism", "policy creation+market cultivation", etc., and elevate them into replicable and promotable development models and industry standards. By means of concept output, talent training, management consulting, and other methods, the pilot experience of Jilin Province will be transformed into a public product to promote the upgrading of the national ice and snow industry, establishing its leading position as an innovation source and benchmark demonstration zone in the national ice and snow economy strategic pattern.
