Digital LED cinemas, virtual reality movies, and other "technology driven viewing modes" have become popular, with stunning visual effects and immersive sensory experiences, receiving high praise from fans. During the New Year holiday, the Beijing Huaxia Film Center attracted many viewers to come and watch movies. As the first full frame LED cinema in China, compared to traditional 24 frame/second screenings, the full frame LED cinema can show high frame rate films ranging from 48 frames/second to 120 frames/second. It has advantages such as high dynamic range, high brightness, and high contrast, further enhancing the immersive experience. Since the National Film Administration issued the "Notice on the Development and Standardization of Digital Film LED Cinemas" in June 2025, the construction and development of LED cinemas in China have significantly accelerated. At present, over 240 cinemas have been installed and operated, ranking first in the world in terms of quantity. After the release of the movie "Avatar 3", China Film's CINITY LED cinema ranked first with an average attendance of 87 and a seat occupancy rate of 26.59%, making it difficult to obtain tickets for prime venues. Shen Ying, the general manager of Huaxia Film Center, stated that they have actively explored the diversified use of cinema space and carefully created various second live events, including sports events, drama performances, and fan theater concerts. This move has driven non ticket revenue growth, accounting for 32% of the box office, making cinemas a cultural living space that connects people. Currently, the deep integration of virtual reality technology and film art has become an important trend in the innovative development of the global audiovisual content industry. The National Film Administration issued a notice on promoting the orderly development of virtual reality films in March 2025. We have taken the lead in incorporating this industry into the scope of management and support globally. In the past 9 months, nearly 140 virtual reality films have been filed and 28 dragon labels have been issued. The cross-border XR cinema located in Guiyang, Guizhou, has the largest XR cinema in the country at present. The biggest breakthrough of XR movies is that they have changed from "sitting and watching" to "walking and playing", allowing audiences to freely walk and explore in virtual scenes. The "Cinema+" model enriches the viewing experience and expands consumer boundaries. Faced with new scenes and new content constantly emerging, some cinemas adopt the "Cinema+" strategy, combining characteristic content, digital technology, and diverse experiences to meet the new viewing needs of audiences. This has expanded the revenue space for traditional cinemas, enriched cultural consumption content, and enhanced participation. On one side are the ups and downs of the plot on the screen, and on the other side are the hot pot in the booth. In Wuxing District, Huzhou City, the new model of "cinema+catering" is attracting many young people to come and check in. Zhang Jinyong, the chairman of a film center in Huzhou, introduced that the lunchtime and evening meal times were originally the periods with the lowest attendance rates. But after adding catering, this time period becomes a very high attendance period. In 2025, this cinema located in the anime Cultural Landmark Mall in Shanghai will be upgraded to become the first animation themed cinema in China. Immersive technology scenes such as XR virtual cinemas and 360 degree surround screen theaters enrich the viewing experience. Dai Yun, the general manager of Shanghai Film Co., Ltd., said that they hope to provide more immersive interaction with IPs in cinemas besides watching movies. This is also from watching movies to consumption to interaction to parties, hoping to form a consumption loop. Judy, director and researcher of the Department of Consumer and Cultural Sociology at the Institute of Sociology, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, said that on the one hand, an innovative industrial ecosystem can enhance the momentum of film consumption and continuously drive consumption growth. On the other hand, these new forms of film consumption also contribute to promoting the updating and upgrading of film related technologies, and the upgrading of the industry. To promote the deep integration of film with commerce, culture and tourism, enhance industrial innovation capabilities and market vitality, and bring new economic growth points. (New Society)
