The water supply project undertaken by Chinese enterprises has revitalized our lives

At around 9am, in Bangulo Village, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, villager Zuvina walked to the faucet at her doorstep holding a water basin. Turn on the faucet, and the clear tap water will quickly fill the basin. She smiled and told the reporter, "Since we have access to running water at home, we no longer have to wake up early to fetch water." The Bengulo water supply project in Tanzania, undertaken by China Electric Power Construction Group Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "China Electric Power Construction"), has benefited multiple areas and remote villages in southern Dar es Salaam, providing clean and safe domestic water for 450000 residents. Tanzania's Minister of Water Resources, Awaso, stated that the Bengulo Water Supply Project not only solves the problem of difficulty in drinking water in the local area, but also further supports Tanzania's modernization process. The water supply project is a livelihood project that benefits the country and the people. Previously, Zuvina had to wake up before 3am every day and walk with her husband and children to the back of the Msinbazi River, which is more than 10 kilometers away. In order to carry water, Zuvina's shoulders and palms were calloused. It used to be very difficult to fetch water, and the water was still turbid. ”Recalling her past experiences, Zuvina shook her head frequently and said, "After the completion of the Bengulo water supply project, you can have clean water at home by turning on the faucet. I have more time to prepare clean food for my family, and children will not be unable to go to school on time because they have to carry water. The water supply project undertaken by Chinese enterprises has made our lives completely new." In January 2024, China Electric Power Construction Corporation launched the construction of the Bengulo water supply project. The project aims to divert water from the Kibamba area in northern Dar es Salaam to the Bangulo Mountains through the construction of a water pump station. With the help of a main line of over 20 kilometers and an 87 kilometer pipeline network, the water will be transported to the southern region of Dar es Salaam. The project aims to provide stable water supply for local residents and achieve 24-hour uninterrupted water supply. The water supply project is a livelihood project that benefits the country and the people. ”Kakeweizi, the representative of Dar es Salaam Water Supply and Drainage Authority, the owner of the project, said that providing clean drinking water could reduce the incidence rate of cholera, dysentery and other diseases, reduce the burden of the public health system, and improve the health level of the people. The southern region of Dar es Salaam is located near the sea, with high salt content in groundwater. Previously, local farmers mainly relied on rainwater irrigation, which seriously affected agricultural development. After the water supply project was put into operation, the irrigation water source was guaranteed. Tobyasi Mangole, who owns a small farm with an area of about 7 acres, began planting sweet potatoes, cassava, okra, and corn, and his family income increased significantly. "In the past, due to water shortage, many crops could not grow. Now my farm not only meets my own needs, but also increases family income and improves life." It is understood that after the water supply project was put into operation, many new farms have been added to the coverage area of the pipeline network, further driving the development of the surrounding agricultural economy. The water supply projects undertaken by Chinese enterprises not only provide clean tap water for everyone, but also inject vitality into our economic development. ”The Chairman of the Bangulo Local Government, Goodlec Mwele, said. In January of this year, the water supply project was officially completed to promote the digital and sustainable transformation of the national water supply system, with a daily water supply capacity of 12000 cubic meters. To improve water supply efficiency and ensure water supply quality, the project team uses a data collection and monitoring system to achieve real-time monitoring and centralized management of the water supply system. The reporter followed the deputy chief engineer of the project, Yin Zifei, to the water pump station located in the Jibanba area. Yin Zifei opened the communication management machine in the centralized control center, and a series of data were clear at a glance, recording the daily, weekly, and monthly water consumption of the project coverage area, as well as the current equipment operation status. The system can transmit real-time parameters such as water flow, water level, pressure, and leakage by reading sensor data, and comprehensively monitor and schedule various water supply processes. ”Yin Zifei introduced that through intelligent linkage control, this system can optimize production scheduling, reduce energy expenditure and pipeline leakage, lower electricity consumption by 20% -30%, reduce leakage rate from 20% to below 10%, and improve water supply efficiency and safety. Multiple water supply projects constructed by China Power Construction in Tanzania have achieved digital management, promoting the intelligent transformation of local water management. This system is currently quite mature in China, and its application in Tanzania is gradually increasing. We will provide centralized training for local employees, arrange for staff and property owners to learn and operate together until all are mastered, "said Yin Zifei. Aveso thanks China Power Construction for its efforts in ensuring project quality and promoting balanced development of infrastructure. The successful completion of the project not only meets the urgent needs of the public for water resources, but also promotes the transformation of the national water supply system towards digitalization and sustainability, promotes regional coordinated development, and narrows the urban-rural gap. He expressed his hope to strengthen cooperation with China Power Construction in the future, further integrate artificial intelligence prediction (such as equipment failure warning), digital twin and cloud deployment, create cross platform access to the water supply system, and promote the transformation of urban water management from "passive response" to "active optimization". They imparted their rich experience and skills to me without reservation, "said Ni Yongm as he inspected the high and low voltage distribution equipment at the water pump station. I come every two days to assist the owner in checking whether the water pump is running smoothly and whether the data transmission of electrical equipment such as electromagnetic flow meters is normal. Although the project has been delivered, we still need to regularly train the owner's management personnel, provide technical support, timely eliminate potential faults, and ensure the safe and stable operation of the equipment, "said Ni Yongmu. Ni Yongmu, 27 years old this year, is a senior mechanical and electrical technician in the project. Since joining China Power Construction in 2021, he has participated in multiple project constructions. I enjoy working with mechanical and electrical equipment, and this job has given me the opportunity to learn and grow. "Nowadays, Ni Yongmu not only has mastered professional skills, but also has a stable income." I am particularly grateful to my Chinese masters, who have generously imparted their rich experience and skills to me. "According to project manager Jin Denghui, during the project construction period, the Chinese team established a comprehensive training and development system, led by Chinese technical backbone, to teach local employees skills such as pipeline welding, water pump operation, and equipment maintenance step by step, achieving the goal of" building a project and leading a team. Assisting nearby communities in road construction, donating stationery to local primary schools, organizing cultural exchange activities, and caring about the lives of local employees... While ensuring the orderly progress of the project, the project team also actively fulfills its social responsibility. Mwele said that in the past, due to water shortage, the local economic development was severely constrained, and the villagers of Bangulo could only go to other places to do odd jobs to support their families. The water supply project not only provides employment opportunities for young people in the village, giving them skills, but also brings vitality to the surrounding economy. Many young people have built new houses and developed their own careers, "said Mwele. Kakwezi stated that the Chinese team, with a high sense of responsibility, professional skills, and management level, has overcome many construction difficulties, ensured construction safety and project quality, successfully fulfilled the contract, and established a good corporate image. As a key water conservancy project in Tanzania, the Bangulo Water Supply Project optimizes resource allocation, improves regional water supply guarantee capacity and water quality safety, and brings tangible benefits to residents. We look forward to more cooperation with Chinese enterprises, "said Kakwezi. (New Society)
