2025-12-26

Regarding the establishment of an Asia Pacific liaison office by the International Institute for the Unification of Private Law in Hong Kong, the Secretary for Justice of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Mr. Lam Ting kuo, stated on the 25th that the establishment of international organizations is a vote of confidence in Hong Kong, which will enhance Hong Kong's recognition and reputation in the international community and consolidate its position as an international legal service center. It is reported that the office is expected to enter the Hong Kong legal hub in the second half of 2026, as part of the centennial celebration of the International Institute for the Unification of Private Law and the first regional office established outside the Rome headquarters of the International Institute for the Unification of Private Law in its centenary. Lin Dingguo stated that the location of the association's regional office in Hong Kong represents the association's trust in Hong Kong as an international legal service center, and believes that Hong Kong is the most suitable place for the office to expand organizational business and promote legal principles. I believe this will definitely have a positive impact on consolidating Hong Kong's position, which is of great significance. At present, the Asia Pacific Regional Office of the Hague Conference on Private International Law, as well as the Office of Cooperation between the Department of Justice and the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law, are all located in Hong Kong, and the International Mediation Institute headquartered in Hong Kong has officially opened. Lin Dingguo said that many international organizations have chosen to establish offices in Hong Kong, representing their vote of confidence in Hong Kong; The more institutions vote in support of Hong Kong, the higher its international recognition and reputation will inevitably be, which will also help consolidate Hong Kong's position as an international legal hub. He stated that when people from all over the world come to Hong Kong for exchanges, learn about Hong Kong's legal services and related facilities, and feel their benefits, it will create a chain reaction, attracting more people to use Hong Kong's legal services and further consolidating Hong Kong's highly international and internationally recognized position as a legal and dispute resolution service center.
