Hong Kong's overall consumer prices rose by 1.2% year-on-year in November

The Census and Statistics Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government recently announced that the overall consumer price index in Hong Kong increased by 1.2% year-on-year in November 2025, which is the same as the corresponding increase in October. Excluding the impact of all one-time government relief measures, the year-on-year increase in the Composite Consumer Price Index (i.e. the basic inflation rate) in November this year was 1%, which is the same as the corresponding increase in October. Among the various components of the comprehensive consumer price index, the categories that recorded an annual increase in prices in November this year were transportation, tobacco and alcohol, miscellaneous services, housing, dining out and takeaway, miscellaneous items, and basic food, which increased by 3.5%, 2.1%, 1.9%, 1.6%, 1.3%, 1.3%, and 0.7%, respectively; The categories that recorded an annual decline include clothing and footwear, durable goods, and electricity, gas, and water, which decreased by 4.1%, 3.3%, and 0.5%, respectively. A spokesperson for the Special Administrative Region government stated that consumer price inflation remained at a low level in November, and the price pressures of major components were generally under control. Looking ahead, overall inflation should remain mild in the short term as cost pressures from both local and external sources remain largely under control. (New Society)
