From paper to screen, from reading to listening to books, reading methods are constantly iterating and updating in the digital age. The recently released "Regulations on Promoting National Reading" emphasize the encouragement of the development and application of new technologies, new carriers, new facilities, etc. to promote national reading. This not only helps readers read with their hearts through technological innovation, but also provides new choices for cultural consumption. New technologies have increased the convenience of reading and made it more interesting. Data shows that the comprehensive reading rate of Chinese citizens has risen from 76.3% in 2012 to 82.1% in 2024, driven by the advancement of new technologies. Reading e-books anytime and anywhere with electronic devices, listening to an audiobook on the subway, scrolling through short videos and analyzing a classic work at high speed... New forms of reading are making more and more people fall in love with "fancy" reading. With the improvement of convenience, the shallow and fragmented issues of digital reading should be given attention. For example, some platforms rely on new technologies and blindly pursue content dissemination, user growth, and traffic monetization, which promotes a superficial and utilitarian "pseudo reading" trend. We should use artificial intelligence, big data and other methods to assist in content mining, optimize the publishing process, increase the supply of high-quality content, and launch more high-quality works with profound ideas and novel forms. We should keep pace with the times to promote the continuous improvement of reading quality and promote the coordinated development of technology, economy and culture. In this regard, platforms and content providers have a lot of room for development. The new carrier can be upgraded in a targeted manner for different groups. Relevant platforms should target the development and application of new media according to the reading needs of different reader groups, and continuously explore market space. For example, for the youth group, reading platforms can visualize and make text content interesting through interactive methods such as images and sounds, enhancing readers' understanding and memory. It is also possible to add a graded reading guidance function, recommending books based on the cognitive level of teenagers to assist their learning and growth. Facing the silver haired reader group, reading devices need to strengthen aging adaptation, add functions such as enlarged font size and voice control, continuously optimize design based on the practical needs of the elderly, and effectively help silver haired readers overcome the digital divide. Build a digital reading cultural ecology that promotes the symbiotic development of "digital informative reading" and "digital nourishing reading", with distinctive features of "fast reading" and "deep reading". In addition to hardware upgrades, it is also necessary to achieve service optimization and inclusiveness. In recent years, various types of reading facilities for the general public in various regions have significantly improved in both quantity and quality. After completion, they still need to be "used well". It is necessary to build a people-oriented reading service system and achieve coordinated development of software and hardware. For example, combining high-quality volunteer services with interactive explanations using artificial intelligence, and linking reading resources from various regions through the "cloud" to achieve facility linkage, making facility functions "live" and services "sink". In the process of improving reading services for different groups of people such as teenagers and the elderly, attention should be paid to the different characteristics of economic development and cultural heritage in various regions, and tailored reading facilities should be created according to local conditions. We can create "mobile libraries" with local cultural characteristics between cities, communities, and rural areas, allowing reading facilities to provide inclusive services while promoting cultural exchange. Actively explore innovative models that balance sustainable operation and cultural inclusiveness, so that the achievements of building a bookish society can be widely covered and benefit the people in the long run.
