Chen Maobo: Hong Kong continuously improves its transportation infrastructure network to enhance overall competitiveness

2025-12-22

On the 21st, the Financial Secretary of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Paul Chan, posted on his blog that building an intelligent, green, and efficient transportation infrastructure network plays an important role in continuously improving the quality of life of citizens, promoting social and economic development, and further enhancing Hong Kong's overall competitiveness. He stated that the relevant construction will help strengthen the economic integration of the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area and is an important component of actively aligning with the national development strategy. The Central Kowloon Bypass (Yau Ma Tei section) officially opened on the 21st. In the future, vehicles traveling between Yau Ma Tei and Kai Tak can choose this direct route, and the travel time during peak hours is expected to be shortened from 30 minutes to about 5 minutes. Chen Maobo stated that starting from the 22nd, 8 bus routes will be put into operation on the first working day of the Central Kowloon Bypass. For citizens who need to commute across districts every day, the total round-trip distance can save about 50 minutes of time. With the completion of the "Kowloon Bay section" next year, the entire new route will form Route 6 together with the Tseung Kwan O Lam Tin Tunnel. At that time, the travel time from Tseung Kwan O to Yau Ma Tei will be reduced from the current about 65 minutes to about 12 minutes. Chen Maobo said that the SAR government will continue to adhere to the principles of "infrastructure first" and "capacity creation", and accelerate the implementation of a series of railway, main road, and intelligent green collective transportation system projects proposed in the "Hong Kong Major Transport Infrastructure Development Blueprint".
