The 2025 Greater Bay Area Science Forum is held in Guangzhou

The opening ceremony of the 2025 Greater Bay Area Science Forum was held in Guangzhou on the 7th, with the theme of "Smart Innovation Bay Area, Integration of Industry and Research". The forum aims to build an innovative ecosystem that deeply integrates "government, industry, academia, research and application", and explore practical paths for the resonance between technological innovation and industrial transformation. Bai Chunli, chairman of the Greater Bay Area Science Forum and the founding chairman of the the Belt and Road International Science Organization Alliance, said that today's world's scientific and technological innovation is entering a critical window period that will determine the future international competition pattern. The Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area has three major advantages: system combination, industrial system and open highland, and has an important foundation to undertake national strategic scientific and technological tasks. To build a higher level of technological innovation capability, Bai Chunli put forward three proposals - adhering to the systematic layout of basic research and strategic scientific and technological forces, strengthening the overall effectiveness of deep integration of industry, academia and research, and adhering to a higher level of open cooperation. Bai Chunli introduced that the R&D investment intensity in the Greater Bay Area has exceeded 4.5%, gathering 30% of high-level talents nationwide. The added value of strategic emerging industries accounts for over 25% of GDP, and the cross-border flow efficiency of innovation factors has increased by 37%. The regional collaborative innovation index has reached 189.6, fully demonstrating its strategic value as a national science and technology innovation engine. At the opening ceremony, 12 Hong Kong and Macau universities, including the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou), University of Macau, Beijing Normal University Hong Kong Baptist University, Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Baptist University, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, City University of Hong Kong, City University of Hong Kong (Dongguan), Macau University of Science and Technology, University of Hong Kong, and Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen), signed a joint initiative to deeply integrate into the construction of the Greater Bay Area International Science and Technology Innovation Center. They proposed to work together to build a new paradigm of deep cooperation in innovation, openness, sharing, industry empowerment, and talent sharing, to help the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area establish a globally competitive open innovation ecosystem. In addition, the Chinese Academy of Sciences released the progress of systematic construction of major scientific and technological infrastructure in Guangdong, and Guangzhou issued policies to promote the integration of scientific and technological innovation and industrial innovation. Bai Chunli said that the Greater Bay Area Science Forum will continue to play an open platform role towards the world, promote the cross regional flow of innovation resources, facilitate the transformation and application of more original achievements in the Greater Bay Area, and help the Greater Bay Area become an important hub of the global innovation network. This forum was launched by the "the Belt and Road" international scientific organization alliance, co sponsored by the People's Government of Guangdong Province, the Government of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and the Government of Macao Special Administrative Region, and more than 50 well-known scientists at home and abroad, as well as people from all walks of life in government, enterprise and business circles, carried out exchanges and discussions around key areas such as artificial intelligence, life sciences, green energy, network communications, and low altitude economy, to provide advice and suggestions for the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area to build an international science and technology innovation center with global influence.
