Recently, the Audiovisual Art Research Center of the Communication University of China, the Network Audiovisual Art Creation Committee of the China Television Artists Association, and the Short Video Content Working Committee of the China Television Drama Production Industry Association jointly released the "Report on the Cultural Value of the National Co creation of Micro Short Drama Industry" (hereinafter referred to as the "Report"). The market size of Chinese micro dramas in 2024 is 50.4 billion yuan. According to the report, there are currently over 1.1 billion online audio-visual users in China, with short video users exceeding 1.038 billion and micro drama users exceeding 626 million. Nearly 100000 micro drama enterprises across the country have driven direct employment of over 200000 people. The consumers of micro dramas cover different age groups: young users aged 18-30 account for 42.5% and are the absolute main consumers; Middle aged users aged 40 to 59 account for 36.7%, while the silver haired group aged 60 and above accounts for 15.8%, and the continuous growth has formed a "silver haired theater". The report points out that under policy guidance, the "micro drama+" model has been deeply integrated into fields such as culture and tourism, and legal education. It has evolved from a simple content product to a digital link and industrial catalyst that connects thousands of industries. For example, in the "Travel with Micro Dramas" project initiated by the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television, 335 cultural and tourism micro dramas were recommended by the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television, and 209 urban themed works formed social discussions, generating a dissemination effect of "one drama with one scene". The report believes that with the deep expansion of the "micro drama+" model, the emerging business of micro drama is transforming from "traffic harvesting" to "value precipitation", showing the industrial characteristics of "rooting downwards, growing upwards, breaking through inward, and expanding outward". Some micro dramas no longer pursue simple "pleasure", but deeply intervene in social issues, convey positive values, and achieve "small scale" carrying "big emotions". (New Society)
