On December 6th, the Greater Bay Area University held its founding ceremony, with representatives from the governments of Guangdong Province and various cities in the Greater Bay Area, as well as over 600 guests and student representatives from the education, technology, and industry sectors, witnessing the new research-oriented university setting sail together. Tian Gang, founding president of Dawan District University and an academician of the CAS Member, said at the founding meeting that he would provide new qualitative talent support for Dongguan and the Dawan District to accelerate the development of new quality productivity and help the Bay Area to promote scientific and technological innovation and the development of emerging industries by building innovative school running models such as "universities+large scientific devices", "universities+key scientific research institutions", "universities+science and technology leading enterprises". The Greater Bay Area University is a public ordinary higher education institution sponsored by the Guangdong Provincial People's Government and supported by the Dongguan Municipal People's Government. In June of this year, the Ministry of Education agreed to establish universities in the Greater Bay Area. In August, the school has started classes and admitted 80 new students for the first time. The school has established the first batch of five undergraduate majors, including Mathematics and Applied Mathematics, Physics, Materials Science and Engineering, Computer Science and Technology, and Industrial Engineering. It implements general enrollment and classified training, and develops differentiated talent training plans for disciplines such as science and engineering. Tian Gang stated that the school is committed to cultivating new talents in the Bay Area who have a solid foundation, broad vision, integration of knowledge and action, and are well-rounded. The school encourages students to explore through models such as experimental classes and the "academic+enterprise" dual mentor system. The universities in the Greater Bay Area are planned and constructed according to the principle of "one school, two zones", covering a total area of about 2000 acres and a total construction area of about 1 million square meters. The Songshan Lake campus has a construction area of approximately 247700 square meters, and the Binhai Bay campus has a construction area of approximately 750000 square meters.
