What are the safety hazards of static electricity in winter? How to stay away from static electricity troubles?

Winter arrives when the weather is dry and things are dry, which can easily generate static electricity. Taking off a sweater or touching a door handle may cause one to be electrified. So, which areas are prone to static electricity? What safety hazards can static electricity bring? How can we eliminate it? Recently, the Public Meteorological Service Center of the China Meteorological Administration released a national map of static electricity index. Most areas in northern China are located in areas with active static electricity due to dry weather and scarce rain and snow. Most areas in Jiangnan and southern China are classified as electrostatic latent areas, while some areas in northern Xinjiang, Sichuan Basin, and eastern Hainan have been designated as electrostatic insulation zones due to increased humidity. Static electricity in dangerous places or environments can easily cause safety accidents. Although the current of static electricity is small, it still inevitably causes a sharp pain when it is charged, and it is even more dangerous in flammable and explosive environments such as gas stations and chemical plants. In February of this year, at a gas station in Tianjin, a car's fuel tank suddenly leaked while refueling. After the gas station staff discovered it, they decisively pulled out the fuel gun and informed the car owner. Just as the car owner was about to bend down to check, the static electricity generated around ignited the leaking gasoline on the ground, causing the vehicle to catch fire instantly. Fortunately, after a brief period of chaos, the open flame was eventually extinguished. How to eliminate the safety hazards caused by static electricity when setting up static electricity export devices in flammable and explosive places? Firefighters explained that some flammable and explosive places are equipped with static electricity discharge devices. By touching these devices, static electricity in the body can be discharged. Wearing cotton clothing can reduce static electricity by increasing humidity. In addition, in dry environments with a relative humidity of less than 30%, there is less moisture in the air, making it difficult for charges to be conducted through water molecules. Static electricity that is originally easy to dissipate will accumulate on the surface of objects or human bodies, creating an active area of static electricity around them. Therefore, increasing the humidity at home is a good way to avoid static electricity. In addition, if synthetic fibers are used extensively in clothing, it can lead to more frictional electrification. Qi Xinglong, Deputy Director of the News and Propaganda Department of the Tongzhou District Fire Rescue Bureau in Beijing, said, "Wearing pure cotton clothes is not easy to generate static electricity, or in other words, it will not produce electric sparks during normal movement and friction." A small clip can be placed at the cuff to make a simple static electricity outlet. The fire prevention officer also introduced that if the frequency of static electricity is high, you can try to place a small clip at the cuff to make a simple static electricity outlet that can take away the charge at any time, so as to avoid the pain caused by skin touching the conductive material.
