Stealing someone else's camera for home anti-theft purposes

2025-12-03

Stealing someone else's camera to prevent theft at home, but being caught in high-definition selfies by the camera, thinking it's a cover up, is actually stealing a bell. One day in March 2025, Jia from Yuzhou, Henan accidentally heard news that a restaurant owner had been criminally detained for involvement in a case, and the restaurant had also closed down. Jia then became greedy for the hotel's property. He arrived at the restaurant and saw that it was indeed closed, so he quietly slipped into the restaurant and moved the eight wooden chairs in the lobby back home. On July 14th, Jia thought that he had stolen a chair without being discovered, so he drove to the restaurant again. This time, he not only stole the induction cooker, lighting, etc., but also dismantled the restaurant's seven cameras. What Jia didn't know was that as early as July 5th, Mr. Li, the restaurant owner, installed several surveillance cameras to prevent theft after discovering a mess in the restaurant kitchen. On July 19th, Mr. Li discovered that the hotel's surveillance cameras were malfunctioning and both new and old ones had been stolen. He immediately reported to the police. After receiving the alarm, the public security organs quickly launched an investigation. Because users usually need to bind cloud services to achieve remote monitoring, data storage, intelligent analysis and other functions when purchasing surveillance cameras, the police can see from the cloud bound by the user Mr. Li and the monitoring device that the stolen monitoring device of the hotel has been put back into use by the suspect for their own anti-theft. Through technical comparison and troubleshooting of the images captured by the camera of the suspect, the police quickly locked Jia. On July 20th, the police seized all the items involved in the case at Jia's home. On October 28th, the investigating authorities transferred the case to the Yuzhou City Procuratorate for review and prosecution. Jia told the investigating prosecutor, "I thought the restaurant had gone bankrupt and no one wanted anything, so I wanted to bring it over to my own family. I didn't expect to cause a big trouble, and I am willing to compensate the restaurant owner for all the losses." Mr. Li, the victim, saw Jia's sincere confession and expressed his willingness to issue a letter of forgiveness, and requested that the judicial authorities handle Jia leniently. After appraisal, the total value of the items involved is 3889 yuan. After examination, the court found that Jia secretly stole someone else's property with the purpose of illegal possession, and the amount was relatively large. His behavior constituted the crime of theft. Considering that Jia's subjective malice is relatively small, his attitude of confession and repentance is good, and he has obtained the forgiveness of the victim, the Yuzhou City Procuratorate has recently made a non prosecution decision against Jia in accordance with the law. Subsequently, based on the mechanism of reverse execution linkage, the court submitted a prosecutorial opinion to the Yuzhou Public Security Bureau on November 26, recommending administrative punishment for Jia. At present, the public security organs have taken administrative detention measures against Jia in accordance with the law. (New Society)
