Promote the construction of disciplines to 'strive for innovation'

2025-12-03

As the main battlefield for military talent cultivation and national defense technology innovation, military academies should focus on the needs of the battlefield, aim at the forefront of science and technology, and use the structural reshaping of disciplines and majors to drive the precise connection between the supply side of talent cultivation and the demand side of the battlefield. They should accelerate on the road of national defense technology innovation and create new momentum. Military academies are built and developed for the sake of war, and the core logic of disciplinary and professional construction must closely follow the principle of 'teaching and researching what is needed for war'. Currently, with the accelerated evolution of the form of war, disciplinary construction needs to shift from passive adaptation to active leadership, and promote the teaching content to be closer to the requirements of actual combat. Smooth the "battlefield classroom battlefield" link, quickly feed back the fresh experience and practical difficulties of military exercises to teaching, and ensure that discipline construction is "new to the war". Modern warfare is a confrontation between systems, and the construction of disciplines and majors needs to break down the barriers of "fighting alone" and achieve capability aggregation through deep integration. On the one hand, we need to strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration, promote the deep integration of military science with engineering, information science, and other fields, cultivate interdisciplinary directions such as "military+intelligence" and "command+technology", and solve the problem of insufficient support for new combat forces in traditional majors. On the other hand, we will continue to strengthen the linkage mechanism from universities to the military, promote the two-way empowerment of disciplinary resources and military practice through joint education and training, mutual recruitment of instructors, and joint research on topics, and achieve the transformation from "physical integration" to "chemical integration". Clausewitz profoundly pointed out in "On War" that "war belongs to the realm of contingency", characterized by uncertainty and fluidity. This essential attribute determines that the military field is one of the most changing fields. The evolution of war forms requires disciplines and majors to possess flexible "adaptive" abilities, autonomously adjusting structures, optimizing content, and reshaping capabilities according to changes in the battlefield environment. Keeping an eye on the changes in technology, war, and opponents, military academies should regularly release guidance and warning lists for discipline construction, shorten the iteration cycle of disciplines through flexible update mechanisms, quickly integrate new tactics, equipment, and cases into the curriculum system, and ensure that discipline construction always targets the forefront of the future battlefield, closely follows and leads actual combat in dynamic development.
