The International Symposium on Human Rights and Development, co hosted by the Chinese Society for Human Rights Studies and the Indonesian Institute of Gentara Studies, was held in Jakarta, Indonesia on the 2nd. More than 20 people from think tanks, scholars, social organizations, and media representatives in the field of human rights from China and Indonesia attended the meeting. The attendees had in-depth exchanges on topics such as the resonance between the core logic of "promoting human rights through development" and the practices of China and Indonesia, the protection of economic, social, and cultural rights in China and Indonesia, the protection of specific group rights and common prosperity practices, the equality of development rights and cooperation between China and Indonesia in global human rights governance, and the coordinated promotion of green development and environmental rights protection. Fu Zitang, Vice President of the China Association for Human Rights Studies and Professor at Southwest University of Political Science and Law, stated that development is an eternal theme of human society, and the right to development is an inalienable basic human right. From a global perspective, the right to development is closely aligned with the United Nations' 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development; From the practice of various countries, development has always been the foundation and key to solving problems. China has long adhered to the right to survival and development as the primary basic human rights, continuously improving people's well-being through development, and achieving outstanding results in the linkage and promotion of poverty alleviation and rural revitalization strategies. He believes that China and Indonesia are both developing countries and emerging market countries with similar development stages, shared ideological paths, and similar cultural traditions. The two countries can enhance mutual trust, deepen exchanges, strengthen cooperation, and reach more consensus in the field of human rights. Chen Shuling, Director of Strategic Communication and Research at the Negara Research Institute in Indonesia, said that this year marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and China. Currently, the cooperation between the two countries in the fields of economy, trade, and culture continues to deepen, especially the people-centered development concept and the increasingly important direction of promoting human rights improvement in the development process. Engaging in open and constructive exchanges can help enhance understanding, build consensus, and lay a solid foundation for longer-term and broader cooperation between the two countries in the future. The attendees unanimously agreed that all countries have the right to independently choose the path of human rights development, and should uphold the principles of mutual respect, tolerance, exchange, and learning from each other, strengthen unity and cooperation, promote common development, and work together to advance the cause of human rights.
