2025-12-02

The report of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China pointed out that "national security is the foundation of national rejuvenation, and social stability is the prerequisite for national strength. We must firmly implement the overall national security concept, integrate the maintenance of national security into all aspects of the Party and state work, and ensure national security and social stability." General Secretary Xi Jinping emphasized that we must adhere to the overall national security concept, take people's security as the purpose, political security as the foundation, economic security as the basis, military, cultural, and social security as guarantees, and promote international security as the basis, and embark on a path of national security with Chinese characteristics. Culture carries the history of a country and is the soul of the nation. Language carries culture and is an important tool for protecting and developing culture. The research team of the Key Scientific Research Project "Research on the Relationship between Language and National Identity from the Perspective of Overall National Security Concept (21A0384)" of the Education Department of Hunan Province believes that strengthening the protection and development of language resources has become a key task in language and cultural construction, which is of great significance for inheriting excellent traditional Chinese culture, maintaining national cultural security, and promoting ethnic unity. Cultural security is an important foundation of national security, and maintaining national security requires safeguarding cultural security. In today's world, with various ideas emerging constantly, it is urgent to maintain cultural security. Cultural identity and security: the cornerstone of national identity and the necessity of maintaining national security. Cultural identity is the foundation of national identity. National identity is the recognition of which country a citizen belongs to, as well as the evaluation and emotions of the political, cultural, and ethnic components of that country. It is the sublimation of ethnic and cultural identity. It is an important foundation for national governance and social cohesion, playing a crucial role in the stability, development, and unity of the country. Language and cultural security is an important guarantee for national identity, playing a crucial role in maintaining national unity, promoting cultural heritage, and maintaining social stability. Cultural identity, as the cornerstone of individual and collective belonging, profoundly influences the construction of national identity. In terms of historical inheritance cognition, shared historical memory and cultural heritage are important sources of national identity, which tightly connect people and form a common sense of identity. Language and text sharing is a direct manifestation of cultural identity. It is not only a tool for communication, but also a medium for cultural inheritance, allowing people to share the same cultural context. Consistency in values is the core of cultural identity, which determines people's behavioral norms and moral standards, and promotes social harmony and stability. The adherence to customs and habits and the resonance with artistic aesthetics further enrich the connotation of cultural identity. They deepen people's experience and recognition of common culture through the resonance of daily life and artistic appreciation. Therefore, cultural identity is an indispensable foundation for national identity. Cultural security is an inevitable requirement for safeguarding national security. The formation and consolidation of national identity require the support of language and culture, and cultural security can provide a solid foundation for national identity by protecting the purity, stability, and inheritance of language and culture. Only through effective protection of language and cultural security can national identity be deeply rooted in people's hearts, and the stability and development of the country can be strongly supported. Globalization has accelerated the exchange and collision of cultures. In the context of the new era, China's cultural security is facing many challenges. Western countries, relying on their strong economic and technological advantages, have implemented cultural colonization policies, and the infiltration of foreign languages and cultures has become increasingly significant through the export of cultural products and online dissemination. A large number of foreign words have entered the local language through international communication and are widely used. The introduction of foreign vocabulary enriches language expression, but also undermines language purity and subtly influences the way Chinese people think. The dissemination of foreign culture to some extent shakes the value system and spiritual beliefs of local culture. Language hegemony also poses a serious threat to the language and cultural security of our country. English, as an international lingua franca, occupies a dominant position globally, and its cultural hegemony constantly erodes the living space of other languages and cultures. This linguistic hegemony may harm cultural security and cultural diversity. The disorderly dissemination of internet language has impacted traditional cultural values. The fragmented, flat, and gamified characteristics of internet language go against the traditional culture's pursuit of language completeness, depth, and accuracy in expression, weakening people's need for deep thinking and logical reasoning. Some online language exhibits vulgar, vulgar, and even goes against public order and good customs, which not only pollutes the language environment but also misleads the values of young people. At the same time, the rapid replacement of online language and the entertainment oriented tendency have led to the detachment of serious and detailed information, dissolved the inherent language habits of society, and impacted traditional values and ethical morals. The urbanization process challenges and threatens linguistic diversity. The process of urbanization is accelerating, population mobility is frequent, the scope of dialect use is gradually shrinking, and language diversity is threatened. Some dialects are on the brink of extinction, and the local culture and historical memories they carry are also lost. The inheritance of ethnic minority languages has also entered a dilemma, with the younger generation more inclined to use the national common language. The frequency of use of ethnic minority languages has decreased, language vitality has weakened, and the inheritance of ethnic culture is facing the risk of being cut off. The relationship between cultural security and national identity will become increasingly close. With the deepening development of globalization and informatization, the infiltration of foreign cultures and the threat of language hegemony will continue to exist, which will pose challenges to the formation and consolidation of national identity. Therefore, the country needs to strengthen the protection of language and cultural security, ensure the promotion and use of the national common language, in order to enhance citizens' sense of national belonging and identity. Meanwhile, respecting and protecting local dialects and minority languages will help promote cultural diversity, enhance ethnic unity, and further consolidate national identity. In order to effectively address challenges, continuous attention must be paid to language and cultural security. By improving the laws and regulations on language and writing, strengthening publicity and education, and promoting the national common language, the whole society's attention to language and cultural security can be enhanced. In addition, building a language education system with Chinese characteristics and cultivating high-quality language communication talents will provide necessary support for the construction of national identity. Utilizing modern information technology to innovate communication methods, expanding the influence of language and culture, and enhancing the country's cultural soft power are all important ways to achieve this goal. Only by forming a consensus on language and cultural security throughout society can we provide solid guarantees for the construction of national identity and contribute to the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
