Wandering on the street, searching for targets, knocking on doors, exploring, and stealing, caught

2025-12-02

Recently, after being prosecuted by the Zhangping City Procuratorate in Fujian Province, the court sentenced Jiang to six months in prison and a fine of 3000 yuan for theft. Having committed multiple thefts, Jiang has developed a "skill" - to determine the layout and lock type of a building based on its appearance. In May 2025, Jiang was riding a shared bicycle in the urban area of Zhangping City, searching for a suitable location to steal. Along the way, he discovered that the layout of a certain building was a single apartment, and the anti-theft door lock could be opened with a card. So, Jiang walked into the building and confirmed that there was no one in the room by knocking on the door. He used a pre prepared card to open the door lock, took off his shoes, and put on disposable gloves to commit theft. Unexpectedly, just as he was searching for valuable items, he was discovered by the homeowner's family who had returned from outside, and Jiang immediately fled the scene. In less than two days, Jiang was arrested by the Zhangping Public Security Bureau. In July, the Zhangping Public Security Bureau transferred the case to the Zhangping Procuratorate for review and prosecution. After examination, the procuratorial organ believes that Jiang committed theft with the purpose of illegal possession, and his behavior constituted the crime of theft. Due to reasons beyond his will, he failed to succeed and was considered an attempted crime. According to the law, he can be punished leniently compared to a completed crime. However, he has multiple criminal records and committed the crime again within five years, which should be sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment or more. He is a recidivist. Based on the above circumstances, on July 28th, the Zhangping Procuratorate filed a public prosecution against Jiang on suspicion of theft. (New Society)
