2025-12-01

On November 30th, various sectors in Hong Kong continued to take action to help residents affected by the fire in Hung Fuk Court, Tai Po to overcome difficulties. The special administrative region government provides support, and various sectors of society rush to assist, ensuring the resettlement and rights of disaster stricken residents from multiple dimensions, and jointly building a safe haven. The Director of the Civil Affairs and Youth Affairs Bureau of the Special Administrative Region Government, Mai Meijuan, stated on the same day that she would ensure that the affected residents have a place to live during the reconstruction of their homes, and all services and measures provided by the government would be free of charge. The fund for providing assistance to residents applies to all affected residents, including an emergency subsidy of HKD 10000 per household and an upcoming living allowance of HKD 50000 per household. Different plans will be launched in the future to meet the needs of residents. Huang Weilun, the leader of the "Emergency Accommodation Arrangements Working Group" for the Tai Po Hung Fuk Court fire and Deputy Secretary for Finance of the Special Administrative Region Government, said that currently more than 1500 residents are staying in related facilities for free, of which two-thirds are staying in transitional housing or housing estates designated by the Housing Society, and the remaining about 500 people are staying in hotels. As of 4:00 pm on the 30th, the fire has caused 146 deaths and 79 injuries. The police casualty investigation team is still conducting continuous investigations and has successfully contacted 159 citizens on the missing list and confirmed their safety. As of 12:00 noon on the same day, the "Tai Po Hung Fuk Court Assistance Fund" established by the SAR government has received external donations of HKD 900 million, and together with the HKD 300 million start-up capital invested by the SAR government, the total amount of the fund is about HKD 1.2 billion. To help the affected residents of Hung Fu Court overcome difficulties, the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, together with the Hong Kong Association of Banks and 28 retail banks (including digital banks), has launched six emergency measures, providing a pre approved six-month repayment grace period and flexible assistance to the affected residents in withdrawing working capital. The Hong Kong Red Cross announced on the 30th that it will provide a psychological support hotline that operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, from now until January 24, 2026. The service targets include residents of Tai Po affected by the fire and citizens in need. At the same time, as the affected residents have gradually moved out of shelters to different communities, the Primary Healthcare Department announced that it will use the 18 district health centers in Hong Kong as hubs to provide basic medical needs free of charge to the affected residents. Social workers from the Social Welfare Department have so far contacted about 1300 affected households and registered 3200 affected residents to provide follow-up support services of "one household, one social worker". At the same time, citizens from all districts of Hong Kong lined up in long lines to join volunteer work, even though they were told that there were sufficient manpower, they were unwilling to leave. Lin Yiquan, a member of the Tai Po Care Team, has been busy at the shelter center. His notebook is densely packed with residents' needs: "Grandma Zhang needs antihypertensive medication", "Mr. Chen needs a blanket"... "Hong Kong has an intangible strength, unity and love. Whenever faced with difficulties, everyone will come together. ”Tai Po District Councilor Li Xiyan has been busy coordinating supplies and comforting residents. I just found out that the shelter center is short of baby formula. When I mentioned it in the club group, everyone responded to my call, and soon someone delivered it, "she pointed to the neatly stacked supplies and said," As long as everyone thinks together, there is no hurdle that cannot be overcome
