As of October 2025, China has issued a total of 262 national standards related to aging and accessibility, establishing a standard system that covers the basic living needs of the elderly and reflects the concept of aging, providing strong support for building an elderly friendly society. "On the 26th, Wang Yuhuan, Deputy Director of the Standards and Technology Department of the State Administration for Market Regulation, introduced at a press conference jointly held by the State Administration for Market Regulation and the Ministry of Civil Affairs. Wang Yuhuan stated that China has now entered a moderately aging society. In recent years, the State Administration for Market Regulation has actively collaborated with the Ministry of Civil Affairs and other departments to promote the comprehensive improvement of quality, category, and efficiency of products and services for the elderly through standardized means. By strengthening collaborative linkage, we have focused on accelerating the development of national standards in key areas such as elderly friendly public infrastructure, home environment design, product research and development, and bridging the digital divide. In the field of elderly products, the leading role of standards is increasingly prominent. Wang Yuhuan pointed out that the release of 13 national standards, including elderly friendly home appliances, elderly friendly furniture, elderly shoes, and adult diapers, has effectively guided industrial upgrading and product quality improvement, better meeting the special needs of the elderly. Zhang Jun, Deputy Director of the Elderly Care Service Department of the Ministry of Civil Affairs, stated that although the standardization of elderly care services has achieved significant results in recent years, there are still shortcomings in terms of institutional mechanisms, system frameworks, and element guarantees. To this end, the Ministry of Civil Affairs, together with the State Administration for Market Regulation (National Standards Commission), jointly issued the "Guidelines for the Construction of the Elderly Care Service Standard System (2025 Edition)" on September 29 this year. Compared with the 2017 version, the new guidelines have made significant adjustments and expansions in terms of system framework structure, classification methods, standard object coverage, and system coding. It is reported that in order to adapt to the new situation and requirements of the development of elderly care services, the new version of the guidelines has added multiple secondary and tertiary indicators, especially in the service provision section, fully considering the characteristics of different scenarios such as home, community, and institutions, and standardizing services related to elderly people such as life care and spiritual comfort. At the same time, content such as "aging friendly renovation services", "safety management", and "technology assisted aging" has been added, and combined with the requirements of elderly health management, the status of "health care" and "rehabilitation services" in the standard system has been further strengthened. Wang Yuhuan stated that the State Administration for Market Regulation will continue to strengthen the overall coordination of standards for elderly products and services, especially in key areas such as rehabilitation aids, textiles and clothing, home appliances, public facilities, smart products, and life services that are accessible to the elderly. We will accelerate the development of age appropriate standards to provide standard assistance for the general public to enjoy a happy old age. (New Society)
