High speed rail delivery, a new manifestation of 'Chinese speed'
2025-11-25
The speed at which people receive packages is getting faster and faster, and behind this may be the role of "freight high-speed rail". During this year's "Double 11" period, China Railway Group Corporation has deployed more than 1700 high-speed trains, 37 confirmed trains, and multiple express trains, building a high-speed rail express network covering 339 stations, making "today's departure, next day delivery" a daily routine. Recently, a newly launched high-speed express train between Hankou, Wuhan, Hubei and Guangzhou, Guangdong has attracted attention. It runs at a speed of 350 kilometers per hour on the tight transportation capacity of the Beijing Guangzhou line, adopting a "point-to-point" direct mode, with a total distance of 1080 kilometers and a transportation time of only 4.5 hours, which is 80% faster than road transportation, achieving efficient communication between the good goods in central China and the specialties in the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area. Compared to the freight train that operated two years ago, with a speed of about 250 kilometers per hour between Kunming, Yunnan and Chengdu, Sichuan, high-speed rail freight is rapidly iterating in terms of speed and scale. In recent years, the "acceleration" of express delivery has continuously refreshed people's "view of time". From logistics companies cooperating with the public transportation system to clear the "last mile", to now express delivery "boarding" high-speed rail, the Chinese transportation market continues to deeply integrate, and "Chinese speed" has new manifestations. The rise of "high-speed rail express delivery" stems from people's expectations for logistics timeliness. As of the end of 2024, the number of online shopping users in China has reached 947 million, and the era of finger tapping and shopping for everything has forced the express delivery industry to continue to accelerate. At the same time, China's high-speed rail network has covered 97% of cities with a population of over 500000 nationwide; According to statistics from express delivery companies, intermodal transportation can increase overall transportation efficiency by about 10% and reduce costs by nearly 30%. Between the "arteries" and "capillaries" of the logistics system, high-speed rail express has demonstrated unique advantages through efficient connection and wide coverage. The normalized operation of high-speed rail express not only improves physical speed, but also refreshes the image of traditional railway freight transportation. It endows the business card of "China's high-speed rail" with a richer connotation - "a mobile China", which is not only the flow of people, but also the accelerated exchange of goods, services, funds, and information. Faster transportation means closer economic connections and more active regional circulation. For consumers, "morning and evening arrivals" have become a daily reality within reach: flowers from Kunming arrive in Chengdu with fragrance, honey oranges from Hankou climb the tables of Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao with fresh leaves... High value-added goods such as fresh produce, urgent items, pharmaceuticals, and electronic products are efficiently circulated through the high-speed rail network. For the real economy, smooth logistics is the "meridian" for development. According to statistics, for every 100 yuan of GDP created, approximately 14 yuan of logistics expenditure is required. For e-commerce operators, faster logistics means that cash flow can be recovered earlier, and business will have more vitality. The scaling up of high-speed rail freight transportation is not an easy task. It requires not only the transformation of the load capacity and structure of the dedicated high-speed train, but also the matching of loading and unloading equipment at the station and the optimization of the operation process. The railway department has conducted systematic demonstration and repeated experiments in transportation organization, safety guarantee, cargo loading and other aspects, in order to achieve the transformation from traditional mode to modern logistics mode with high timeliness, large capacity, all-weather and green environmental protection. In the "15th Five Year Plan" for railway development currently being formulated, the focus will also be on improving the railway network, enhancing transportation efficiency, and reducing logistics costs to better meet the growing demand for passenger and freight transportation. As more and more packages "sit" on high-speed trains and enter thousands of households at an earlier time and in a better condition, the word "development" will be repeatedly confirmed and perceived in individual experiences, which is a faster, more stable, and more reliable daily life.
