A few drops of medicine can turn one RMB into two? "Such an outrageous lie caused a citizen named Xiang to lose more than 30000 yuan in savings. Recently, the second trial of the "drug copying RMB" fraud case, which was prosecuted by the Xingyi City Procuratorate in Guizhou Province, came into effect. The defendant Liu was sentenced to three years and six months in prison and fined 5000 yuan for theft. In August 2024, Xiang met Liu at his doorstep, who claimed to "undertake custom-made doors and windows". During the conversation, Liu mysteriously revealed that he possessed a "special technique" that could make money "make money". At first, Xiang thought it was a joke, but under Liu's repeated persuasion, he half believed and half doubted inviting him into his home. At Xiang's house, Liu immediately started a "performance": he asked Xiang to take out a 100 yuan cash and a bowl filled with water, tie the wallet tightly with a white cloth, put it in the bowl, and then take out 4 bottles of unknown liquid from the bag and pour them all in. After soaking for a moment, Liu took white paper and an iron, and repeatedly pressed Bri's money on the paper. Two minutes later, when I opened the white cloth, the original one worth 100 yuan turned into two. To completely dispel doubts, Liu asked Xiang to verify on the street and confirm that both banknotes could be used normally. Xiang firmly believed in this "magical technology" from then on. A few days later, Liu visited the door again. At this moment, Xiang immediately took out all of his savings of 30500 yuan in cash and pleaded with Liu to help "copy" more money. Liu repeated his old trick and asked Xiang to prepare a glass jar and water. While Xiang was away from fetching water, Liu quickly changed the white cloth containing 30500 yuan in cash and poured the medicine into the jar, pressing it down with bricks. He falsely claimed that "the medicine was not enough and needed to be purchased outside" and that "the entire" reprinting "process would take 24 hours", taking the opportunity to hastily leave Xiang's house. Seeing that Liu had not returned for a long time, Xiang finally became suspicious. After opening the jar, he felt like he had been struck by lightning - all the cash inside had turned into ghost currency. He immediately called the police. After the investigation of the case is completed, it is transferred to the procuratorial organ for review and prosecution. After examination, the procuratorial organ believes that Liu secretly transferred money from others through deception with the purpose of illegal possession, and his behavior has constituted the crime of theft. On December 13, 2024, the Xingyi City Procuratorate filed a public prosecution against Liu on suspicion of theft. On August 7, 2025, the court sentenced Liu to three years and six months in prison and fined him 5000 yuan for theft in the first instance. Liu appealed against the decision and on October 5th, the Intermediate Court of Qiannan Prefecture made a final ruling, rejecting the appeal and upholding the original verdict. (New Society)
