In addition to busy work, people in modern cities stroll through urban green spaces, relaxing their bodies and minds by admiring green trees and flowers, watching fish swim, and listening to bird songs. Biodiversity improves people's quality of life and enhances their sense of happiness through this approach. And this is also the reason why the topic of urban biodiversity is gaining popularity. The green spaces, parks, botanical gardens, zoos, aquariums, germplasm resource banks (nurseries), campuses and other areas and facilities in cities are not only carriers of urban biodiversity, but also important components of basic public services in cities. They not only provide residents with important places for daily leisure, entertainment, and social activities, but also enrich the urban spatial characteristics and functional composition. In recent years, China has carried out a lot of work in promoting urban biodiversity conservation. Various regions continue to promote biodiversity surveys and monitoring, formulate relevant technical specifications, carry out urban ecological restoration and green space system connectivity construction, and significantly increase the area of urban green spaces and greenways. However, there are still many problems in the development of urban biodiversity in our country, such as the fragmentation of natural habitats caused by insufficient urban planning due to urban expansion, species extinction or migration caused by industrial and domestic pollution, the invasion of alien species squeezing the living space of native species, and weak public participation awareness. Strengthening the protection of urban biodiversity is a long and arduous task. Scientifically plan urban space and build an interconnected network of biological habitats. Provide continuous habitats for organisms through rigid planning and three-dimensional construction. When carrying out urban planning, we adhere to the principle of ecological priority, reserve ecological corridors, scientifically layout green trails, aerial bridges, etc. Reasonably layout ecological nodes such as parks and wetlands to form an interconnected ecological network. For example, the proportion of ecological land in newly built urban areas should not be less than 40%, and the newly added green area in old city renovation should not be less than 20% of the total renovation area. Combining urban road network and water system layout with multi-level ecological corridors such as "above ground underground air" to improve the living environment for organisms. Systematically promote pollution source control and improve the quality of urban biological living environment. Provide a clean home for organisms through source control and ecological restoration. Efforts will be made to promote the green transformation of urban industries, strengthen industrial emissions reduction, and strictly control the discharge of waste gas and wastewater from enterprises. Promote the upgrading of clean energy sources such as solar and wind power, and reduce reliance on traditional fossil fuels. Strengthen the control of motor vehicle exhaust, improve fuel standards, and promote new energy vehicles. Promote urban soil remediation and control, adopt bioremediation, physical remediation and other technologies for historically polluted land, prohibit the use of highly toxic pesticides and excessive fertilizers in urban green spaces, improve urban soil environment, and create a clean living environment for organisms. Establish a comprehensive system for preventing and controlling invasive species throughout the entire chain, and safeguard the living space of native species. Block the invasion path of alien species and strengthen clearance to effectively address the threat to the survival of native species. Establish a sound monitoring and early warning system for alien species, strengthen port quarantine and inspection, and strictly control the entry of alien species into customs. Strengthen the management of invasive alien species and organize professional teams to regularly remove invasive animals and plants from urban green spaces and water bodies. By developing monitoring apps, conducting reward reporting, and organizing training on identifying alien species, we will strengthen the monitoring and removal of alien species. (New Society)
