On November 19th, a symposium on the high-quality development of children's literature in the new era, hosted by the Chinese Writers Association, was held in Changsha, Hunan. The award-winning writers, judges, and editorial representatives of the 12th National Excellent Children's Literature Award gathered together to explore the mission and development path of children's literature in the new era. The relevant person in charge of the China Writers Association stated that the selection of this year's National Excellent Children's Literature Award is a comprehensive review of children's literature in the new era. The 18 award-winning works vividly showcase the uplifting spirit of young children, deeply rooted in the soil of real life, guiding them to perceive life and cultivate their character with clear guidance. Through this award, we can see that children's literature in the new era has shown a thriving scene in all aspects of creation, publication, reading, and dissemination. At the symposium, the attending representatives had in-depth exchanges on the creative orientation, originality ability, practical care, and quality consciousness of children's literature. It is believed that children's literature should firmly grasp the core task of "cultivating virtue and nurturing people", promote socialist core values, and guide children to love the country, identify with culture, and understand the great cause of national rejuvenation. In terms of enhancing originality, representatives believe that it is necessary to root in excellent traditional Chinese culture, draw inspiration from myths, legends, and history, combine contemporary children's aesthetic and cognitive characteristics, and promote creative transformation and innovative development. At the same time, we encourage balanced development of children's literature across all categories and age groups, with a particular focus on early childhood literature and digital communication. Realistic subject matter creation has also become a focus of discussion. Representatives expressed that writers should delve into children's lives, listen to their voices, pay attention to the growth differences between urban and rural children, promote the balanced development of children's literature in terms of content and dissemination, and enhance the sense of the times and infectiousness of their works. Representatives of attending writers and editors stated that they will adhere to the original intention of literature, devote themselves to creation, and build a spiritual world with cultural depth and ideological depth with sincerity and goodwill, making children's literature a valuable gift that accompanies children's growth and enlightens their minds.
