Mao County, Sichuan Province: Celebrating the Qiang New Year

On November 18th, Chibusu Town, Mao County, Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province held a special folk cultural activity. Local residents dressed in traditional ethnic costumes, sang and danced with tourists, tasted sake, and talked about harvest together, celebrating the annual Qiang New Year. The Qiang New Year is the most solemn festival of the Qiang ethnic group. On December 5, 2024, UNESCO transferred the Qiang Year from the list of urgently needed intangible cultural heritage to the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
