2025-11-13

A short drama adapted from online literature has been launched, which can drive a daily reading increase of over 300% for the original work; China's online literature is created and shared globally, with about 200 million overseas active users and a batch of local creators - how should we define today's online literature? From November 9th to 12th, the 2025 China Online Literature Forum with the theme of "Big Era, Big Vision, Big Literature" was held in Quanzhou, Fujian. Network literature writers, platform representatives, and industry professionals discuss the path of mainstream, boutique, industrialization, and internationalization of online literature. The "Fifteenth Five Year Plan" proposed to "prosper the new popular literature and art under the Internet" and "guide and standardize the healthy development of online literature, online games, online audio-visual, etc.". Experts attending the meeting believe that with the acceleration of mainstream and boutique processes, the leverage role of online literature on the cultural industry is becoming increasingly prominent, and its international influence is significantly enhanced, making great strides towards a high-quality development stage. As of the end of 2024, the user base of Chinese online literature has reached 575 million, accounting for 51.9% of the total number of netizens, making it a literary style with national characteristics. How to understand online literature from the perspective of the "grand literary view" as an important manifestation of new popular literature and art? Experts believe that while maintaining a distinct "internet feel," online literature creation should pursue exquisite artistic quality, vivid life quality, and promote classicization and innovative development. Continuous optimization of the creative ecosystem, turning high-quality products into industry consensus. In response, local associations and relevant departments are actively building a creative support system. During this event, the first Hisilicon Online Literature Week was launched; Fujian relies on the "Golden Conch" online literature creation support program to establish a full cycle cultivation mechanism covering "creation growth success"; Hunan Province, relying on the Malanshan Video Cultural and Creative Park, has built and operated the "China Online Literature Town" and opened a "green channel" for professional title evaluation of online writers... The creative concept is also continuously upgrading. The online writer 'Insecticide Team Member' believes that online literature has a high degree of inclusiveness, and that integrating and innovating various cultural forms of new narrative methods can meet the needs of readers. With the popularization of AI technology, online literature creation needs to be more comprehensive. ”Internet writer "Mo Shubai" believes that successful IP development works often have the characteristics of "distinct visual characters", and the story construction tends to be more like "a story composed of curtains". On the other hand, as the "IP matrix", online literature's role in leveraging the cultural industry is increasingly prominent. It has become a key engine driving industrial development, working together with film, animation, games, and other industries to build a richer and more diverse digital content ecosystem. It is worth noting that the adaptation of short dramas from online literature has become a new trend in the industry. The "novel short drama" linkage model has expanded the user coverage of online literature and brought about a multiplier effect of industry integration. The short drama "Home and Outside" focuses on the urban life in the early stages of reform and opening up, with a view count of over 1 billion and driving the collection of similar online articles to exceed 500000. More than half of the short dramas are adapted from online literature, becoming a channel for converting massive amounts of online literature IPs. ”According to Wei Qintao, the person in charge of the Red Fruit Short Drama, the short drama can currently digest tens of thousands of online literary works annually. In his view, deep integration is producing a two-way empowerment effect. On the one hand, industrialization provides new growth channels and creative motivation for online literature authors; On the other hand, it also encourages online literature creation to pay more attention to visual thinking, laying a better foundation for subsequent transformation. One update, spanning seven time zones "is a line from the documentary" Online Literature China "by the Network Literature Center of the Chinese Writers Association. The cultural "new three styles" represented by online literature have resonated widely with overseas audiences and become an important part of the world's popular culture system. The overseas mode is constantly innovating and upgrading. Starting Point International is actively cultivating local original authors while replicating the "Starting Point Model" overseas. By the end of 2024, the number of overseas original works has reached 100 times that of translated works. Jinjiang Literature City has exported over 5000 works overseas, covering more than 20 countries and regions. Through precise research on the preferences of overseas readers, targeted promotion of the works has been achieved. 'Online literature going global' is not only an exciting story, but also a tangible economic growth point. ”Professor Shao Yanjun from the Chinese Department of Peking University introduced that Chinese online literature is achieving wider international dissemination through new forms such as micro dramas, and is deeply shaping the reading habits of global readers. She believes that in order for Chinese online literature to maintain its leading edge in international competition, it must protect the soil of originality and constantly tell the world newer and better Chinese stories.
