To celebrate the 15th National Games of the People's Republic of China, on November 11th, the Guangdong Provincial Museum launched an original thematic exhibition titled "Centennial Bay Area Situation - Exhibition of Modern and Contemporary Cultural Relics in the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area". Through more than 350 exhibits reflecting the history and social and cultural changes of Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao over the past century, the exhibition showcases the historical memory of Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao, and enhances cultural identity and national cohesion. The exhibition starts with a folding fan depicting the scenery of Hong Kong, Macau, and other ports in the second half of the 19th century, telling the stories of Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macau since modern times. The first part, "We/We," explains what "Guangdong Hong Kong Macao" means from three aspects: natural features, cultural characteristics, and historical changes, through natural specimens, historical evidence, and historical documents. The specimens and paintings of kapok flowers, Bauhinia flowers, and lotus flowers showcase the plant characteristics and symbolism of representative flowers in Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macau. The gold lacquer wood carvings made by Xu Sanyou during the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China, which are the same as those in Guangdong and Hong Kong, express the common Lingnan cultural genes. Historical evidence such as the 1910 Guangdong Museum Chamber of Commerce Guangcai Group Deer Painting Porcelain Board, the June 1947 Hong Kong publication of "Zheng Bao", and the 1949 Hong Kong "Two Airlines Uprising" personnel certificate, demonstrate the unity and solidarity of the people of Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macau. The second part, 'Drinking from the same river', showcases the close relationship between Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao from four aspects: customs clearance, mutual assistance, economic trade, culture, and sports. The Hong Kong and Macao travel documents have gone from "small notebooks" to "electronic cards", from "group tours" to "individual tours", witnessing the continuous narrowing of the distance and increasingly close exchanges between Hong Kong, Macao and the mainland. After the establishment of the People's Republic of China, a huge basic guarantee system for water and electricity supply was erected, and the "three express trains" sailed to Hong Kong rain or shine, building lifelines for Hong Kong and Macao compatriots. Since the 1970s and 1980s, Hong Kong and Macao compatriots have actively invested in their hometowns and other mainland cities, and donated to education, hospitals, and other livelihood projects, promoting the development of mainland cities and the improvement of people's living standards, becoming a bridge connecting the world and moving towards the world. The cultural and sports exchanges between Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao have a long history. The achievements made by the three regions in the field of sports since the 20th century have jointly laid a solid foundation for China's modern sports industry. The exhibition will continue until March 8th, 2026. (New Society)
