Building the Future in the Desert - Chinese Enterprises Assist Kuwait in Creating a Modern New City worth billions of RMB

2025-11-13

This is a drone photo taken on November 1, 2025 at the construction site of the South Saad Abdullah New City infrastructure project in the province of Kuwait. In the vast desert 25 kilometers southwest of Kuwait City, the capital of Kuwait, a modern new city covering an area of 64 square kilometers - Kuwait's South Saad Abdullah New City (hereinafter referred to as the "New City") is rising from the ground. At the end of 2023, China Energy Engineering Gezhouba Group signed a contract for the first section of this new city infrastructure project and officially started construction, and will continue to participate in the construction of several sections of the project in March 2025. This is also a vivid practice of the docking between China's "the Belt and Road" initiative and Kuwait's "2035 National Vision". As a major livelihood project in Kuwait, the completion of this new city will provide housing and supporting services for at least 150000 residents, and greatly alleviate the housing pressure in the capital region. Chinese builders are using their sweat and craftsmanship to depict the magnificent outline of a modern new city in the Kuwaiti desert, with rammed earth platforms, columns, and beams erected, creating new milestones for Sino scientific cooperation.
