At the foot of the Qilian Mountains, there is a wildlife welfare home

2025-11-12

In the Qinghai area of Qilian Mountain National Park (candidate area) in Qilian County, Haibei Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai Province, there is a wildlife "welfare institute" - Qilian Mountain National Park Wildlife Rescue and Breeding Station. Since its establishment in 2022, this place has become a "safe haven" for many injured wildlife. Every animal that comes to the rescue breeding station will undergo strict physical examination, documentation, and receive personalized rehabilitation care. Animals that meet the conditions for release will undergo wild training led by staff, and will return to nature after rehabilitation and passing the training. As of now, the rescue breeding station has collected and rescued a total of 235 wild animals, including snow leopards, desert cats, black necked cranes, Tibetan antelopes and other national key protected animals. Among them, 56 of 21 species have been successfully released. And those animals that have lost their ability to survive in the wild due to old age, disability, and other reasons settle in the station and enjoy a peaceful "retirement life". Here, the staff are doctors and coaches, as well as' wet parents'. They feed, vaccinate, clean up the pens, monitor the health of the animals, and help each wild animal regain vitality through meticulous care and companionship. (New Society)
