The reporter learned from the Ministry of Natural Resources that the important achievement of the United Nations' "Decade of the Ocean" Digital DEPTH Large Science Program, the "Deep Sea Habitat Intelligent Cognition and Exploration Multimodal Large Model (DePTH-GPT)", has recently been released globally, marking a leading breakthrough in the integration of deep sea science and artificial intelligence in China, injecting new technological impetus into global deep sea cognition and governance. It is reported that the model was developed under the guidance of the China Ocean Affairs Administration, jointly by the Second Institute of Oceanography of the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Zhijiang Laboratory, as well as multiple domestic and foreign research institutions. It is the world's first multimodal large-scale model for typical deep-sea habitats. This model integrates cutting-edge artificial intelligence technologies such as deep learning, big language modeling, visual recognition, and knowledge reasoning. It has three core capabilities: cross modal fusion understanding, habitat dynamic inference, and intelligent decision support. It can collaboratively process multi-source heterogeneous data such as video, terrain, hydrodynamics, sediment, and bioacoustics, promoting deep-sea research from traditional qualitative analysis to a new stage of interpretable and predictable intelligent cognition. It is reported that the model has functions such as intelligent perception of deep-sea habitats, comprehensive intelligent deduction of deep-sea habitats, generation of governance decision plans, and immersive cognitive guidance. It has also completed the construction of an intelligent cognitive system for a deep-sea seamount and a hydrothermal area. In the future, this model will be open for use by global research institutions and international organizations, collaborating with research forces from various countries to continuously expand habitat coverage and build an intelligent cognitive system that covers multiple types of habitats such as deep-sea seamounts, hydrothermal fluids, plains, and continental slopes. Experts have stated that the successful development and open sharing of DePTH GPT demonstrates China's technological innovation capabilities in the forefront of deep-sea cross domain, contributing Chinese wisdom to the coordinated promotion of deep-sea protection and sustainable utilization, and building a beautiful future of harmonious coexistence between humans and the ocean.
