The Beijing Opera Troupe's Beijing Opera "Old Stories in the South of the City" premiered at the Beijing Tianqiao Art Center from November 4th to 5th. The drama uses the Beijing dialect and rhyme to recreate memories of Beiping, leading the audience to savor separation and growth. The Beijing opera "Old Stories in the South of the City" is adapted from the novel of the same name by Lin Haiyin. Through the childlike perspective of Yingzi, it tells the story of several past events in the south of Beiping City in the late 1920s, showcasing the customs, traditions, and various aspects of old Beijing. The director of the drama, Bai Ailian, said that the work adopts the technique of stream of consciousness, using Yingzi's memories to naturally switch scenes such as hutongs, deserted gardens, and schools, and strives to convey deep emotions through lively and interesting performances. Beijing Opera is developed from the popular single string brand music in Beijing, integrating melodies such as Qinshu and Dagu. It is the only local opera genre born in Beijing and the only one that belongs to Beijing itself. In 1952, Beijing opera was officially born, marked by Lao She's creation of "Willow Well".
