The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government's Electoral Affairs Office announced on the 6th that the nomination period for the 2025 Legislative Council general election would end at 5pm. During the nomination period, the Returning Officers for 10 geographical constituencies, 28 functional constituencies, and the Election Committee constituency received a total of 161 nomination forms. According to the information from the Election Affairs Office of the Special Administrative Region Government, the nomination forms received for each geographical constituency, functional constituency, and Election Committee constituency were 51, 60, and 50 respectively. The Electoral Officer will determine the order in which the names of candidates for geographical constituencies, functional constituencies, and Election Committee constituencies will be arranged on the ballot papers, as well as the designated locations for displaying election advertisements, by drawing lots at the Kowloon Park Sports Centre on November 7th. The Candidate Qualification Review Committee will publish a notice in the Gazette within 14 days after the end of the nomination period, announcing the candidates who have been effectively nominated for each geographical constituency/electoral sector. If a certain geographical constituency, functional constituency or Election Committee constituency is a contested election, a vote must be held on December 7th, and the candidate number printed on the ballot will also be published in the notice in the Gazette. Legislative Council President Andrew Leung met with the media on the same day and noted that the candidates in this election come from different sectors with diverse backgrounds. Each candidate has their own advantages, and we believe they will bring professional experience, new ideas, and new policy initiatives from all aspects into the new Legislative Council, injecting new strength into the parliament and bringing a new atmosphere. Liang Junyan said that this election continues the healthy phenomenon of the seventh Legislative Council, and once again, all 90 seats will be elected in a competitive environment. "Every constituency has competition and every sector has choices," and the competition in some constituencies is more intense than the previous one. All candidates are standing on the same starting line, and they must use their strength, political platform ideas, and enthusiasm for serving society to win and lose. (New Society)
