The preliminary estimate of Hong Kong's gross domestic product for the third quarter of 2025 released by the Census and Statistics Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government shows that Hong Kong's gross domestic product increased by 3.8% in real terms year-on-year in the third quarter, and by 3.1% in the second quarter. Statistics show that the local gross domestic product, which is seasonally adjusted and compared to consecutive quarters, will increase by 0.7% in real terms in the third quarter of 2025 compared to the second quarter. Private consumption expenditure increased by 2.1% in real terms in the third quarter of 2025 compared to the same period last year, while the increase in the second quarter was 1.9%. A spokesperson for the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government stated that driven by the continued significant increase in exports and the continued expansion of internal demand, the Hong Kong economy will perform well in the third quarter of 2025. The strong demand for electronic related products and smooth regional trade have driven the overall export of goods to continue to grow significantly in the third quarter. The significant expansion of service output is mainly supported by the sustained growth of inbound tourism and the active performance of cross-border financial activities in the global stock market. On the local front, private consumption expenditure has further increased. With the expansion of the economy and the stabilization of the residential property market, the overall increase in investment expenditure has accelerated. Looking ahead, the spokesperson stated that the Hong Kong economy is expected to continue to grow steadily for the remainder of 2025. However, external uncertainties, especially the sustained impact of trade barriers on the global economy, international trade, and financial conditions, still require close attention. (New Society)
