It has become common knowledge not to drive under the influence of alcohol, but some people have lost control of their emotions due to verbal conflicts, not only attempting to beat taxi drivers, but even driving at high speeds under the influence of alcohol, disregarding public safety. On September 23rd, after being prosecuted by the Quanshan District Procuratorate of Xuzhou City, Jiangsu Province, the court sentenced Wu to two months of detention and a fine of 5000 yuan for the crime of dangerous driving. On the evening of June 25th, after having dinner with friends, Wu planned to take a taxi back to his residential area. However, after getting on the taxi, he got into an argument with the driver while communicating about his destination, and became emotionally agitated, threatening to beat the driver. The driver fled the scene out of fear of abandoning the car, but Wu did not give up. Instead, he sat in the taxi driver's seat while drunk and started the vehicle straight onto the city highway without the owner's consent and in a drunken state. During driving, Wu ignored the speed limit regulations on elevated roads and the risks of nighttime driving, and continued to accelerate. According to the taxi's driving recorder, the maximum speed reached 110 kilometers per hour, far exceeding the speed limit standard of the elevated road section. During driving, Wu repeatedly left the steering wheel and waved his hands in the air. At that time, although the traffic on the elevated road decreased compared to the daytime, Wu's dangerous driving behavior was like a "mobile bomb", posing a great threat to passing vehicles, drivers and passengers, and public safety on the road. Finally, Wu drove to the vicinity of the residential area, parked the taxi on the roadside, and returned home. The taxi driver later reported to the police, and the public security organs locked the vehicle's location and Wu's identity information through road surveillance video, and arrested him. After identification, ethanol was detected in Wu's blood, which far exceeded the standard for drunk driving. The public security organs have comprehensively fixed the key evidence of Wu driving a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol and driving on an elevated road by retrieving the video footage from the driving recorder and questioning relevant witnesses. In August 2025, the public security organs transferred the case to the Quanshan District Procuratorate for examination and prosecution. In September, the Quanshan District Procuratorate prosecuted Wu on suspicion of dangerous driving. (New Society)
