Our scientific research team has successfully completed the manned deep-sea diving mission in the Arctic

On the 27th, the scientific expedition team carrying out the manned deep-sea diving mission in the Arctic returned smoothly. The scientific research mission was jointly organized by the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Chinese Academy of Sciences, led by the Institute of Deep Sea Science and Engineering of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and completed by relying on the first international manned deep-sea diving mother ship with ice breaking capacity, "Exploration 3" and "Endeavor" manned submersibles. The "Striver" has completed a total of 43 submarine operations in the Arctic and achieved underwater joint operations with the "Jiaolong" manned submersible, innovating China's dual manned submersible underwater collaborative operation mode. On July 22nd, the Arctic manned deep-sea diving expedition team departed from Sanya and, together with the manned deep-sea diving team of the Jiaolong, went to the Arctic Ocean to carry out deep-sea diving missions. This voyage lasted for 98 days and sailed over 15000 nautical miles. The scientific expedition team worked in the Arctic Ocean for 56 days and sailed 1989 nautical miles in the ice zone, conducting a series of scientific investigations and experiments. The manned deep-sea diving team of "Jiaolong" has completed China's first Arctic ice diving and collaborated underwater with "Fendouzhe" to complete dual submersible positioning search, marker exchange, underwater motion photography, etc. Especially in the Central Sea Basin, where sea ice coverage is greater than 80%, the scientific expedition team conducted the world's first manned deep-sea exploration of the Mid Atlantic Ridge. This voyage has verified the operational capability and application value of the manned submersible "Striver" and the mother ship "Exploration 3" in polar ice regions, achieving a series of technological breakthroughs in polar deep-sea scientific research operations. The scientific research team has established the manned deep-sea diving operation regulations for the "Striver" spacecraft in extreme polar environments, creating a new mobile ice diving mode of "ship submarine collaboration" in dense ice areas. It has achieved precise guidance and safe ascent in the harsh environment of constantly drifting sea ice, greatly increasing the range of underwater operation time for polar manned submersibles. It has trained and nurtured a polar manned deep-sea diving scientific research team, making China the only country in the world to conduct continuous manned deep-sea diving in the Arctic dense sea ice area, further establishing China's international leading position in the field of manned deep-sea diving technology. Based on the high-precision and routine operation advantages of the "Exploration III" and "Striver" spacecraft, the scientific expedition team has collected a batch of precious water, sediment, rock, and biological samples, obtaining a large amount of observational data, which will provide important scientific support for in-depth research on the rapid climate change in the Arctic, the geological processes of the Mid Atlantic Ridge seabed under the background of Arctic ultra slow expansion, and the evolution and adaptation mechanisms of polar life.
