2025-10-24
The United Nations Tourism Organization recently released the list of "Best Tourist Villages" for 2025, with 4 villages declared by China selected, and a total of 15 villages selected from the previous 4 batches, bringing the total number of "Best Tourist Villages" in China to 19. These rural areas have their own characteristics in natural landforms, cultural forms, and development paths, presenting a rich and diverse development trajectory, and showing the world the vivid practice of China's promotion of ecological civilization construction and comprehensive rural revitalization in the new era. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the concept that green mountains and clear waters are invaluable assets. The list of "Best Tourist Villages" for 2025 was announced in Huzhou City, Zhejiang Province, where this concept was proposed. The latest selected villages are all vivid practices of the "Two Mountains" concept: Digang Village in Zhejiang Province preserves the world's most complete mulberry based fish pond system, achieving ecological "zero pollution"; Jikayi Village in Sichuan Province is adjacent to the World Natural Heritage Site "Giant Panda Habitat" and the World Biosphere Reserve Network, developing a three-dimensional agricultural ecosystem on the plateau; Huanggang Village in Guizhou has 85% forest coverage and 2300 acres of terraced fields, safeguarding the authentic natural beauty; Dongluo Village in Jiangsu Province has interwoven water systems and picturesque terraced fields... These villages have adapted to local conditions and embarked on a sustainable development path of ecological beauty, industrial prosperity, and people's wealth. Under the guidance of the "Two Mountains" concept, China firmly adheres to the path of ecological priority, conservation and intensification, green, low-carbon and high-quality development. Millions of people are pursuing green development and sharing the abundant fruits of green development. A modern landscape of harmonious coexistence between humans and nature is unfolding in the beautiful China. The key to rural revitalization lies in industrial revitalization. Based on its own situation, Chinese rural areas have vigorously developed new business models such as rural tourism, ecological agriculture, and cultural creativity by exploring local culture and characteristic resources, achieving the goal of "one industry prospering and a hundred industries thriving", providing useful reference for the sustainable development of rural areas worldwide. Developing Miao embroidery, homestays, and specialty agricultural products in Shibadong Village, Hunan Province; Huanggang Village promotes comprehensive rural revitalization through the holistic protection of intangible cultural heritage; Kikayi Village explores the path of natural ecology and colorful folk customs complementing each other... Rural tourism makes the countryside more beautiful and makes the lives of villagers more prosperous. Nowadays, staying in homestays, eating delicious food, and buying local specialties in rural areas has become a new consumption trend for Chinese urban and rural residents. In 2024, the operating revenue of leisure agriculture in China will be nearly 900 billion yuan, an increase of nearly 50 billion yuan compared to 2020. Zulab Pollikashvili, Secretary General of the United Nations Tourism Organization, stated that the "Best Tourist Villages" inject strong momentum into promoting rural transformation and helping to build a more sustainable future. In the process of promoting the construction of beautiful countryside in various parts of China, the traditional aesthetic wisdom of the Chinese nation is integrated into rural development and protection, continuously improving the comfort of living environment, the completeness of infrastructure, and the convenience of public services, so that ancient villages can radiate stronger "vitality", stronger "cultural flavor", and more vibrant "fireworks atmosphere". Foreign tourists visiting rural areas in China exclaim, "It not only preserves the traditional charm, but also radiates a modern and artistic atmosphere, allowing me to see the integration of ancient and modern development in Chinese rural areas." The vibrant "Village Evening", singing the "Village Song" of the north and south, and dancing the "Square Dance" of urban and rural areas... These cultural scenes that originate from the masses and are rooted in life showcase the uplifting spirit of the Chinese people and the rich cultural heritage of Chinese rural areas. The beauty of rural China is the harmonious beauty of ecological protection and economic development, the fusion of traditional culture and modern civilization, and the continuous improvement of people's sense of gain, happiness, and security. During the 14th Five Year Plan period, China adhered to prioritizing the development of agriculture and rural areas, deeply implemented the strategy of rural revitalization, and achieved new historic achievements in the development of agriculture and rural areas, laying a solid foundation for the leap from an agricultural power to an agricultural powerhouse. The Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China proposed to accelerate the modernization of agriculture and rural areas, and solidly promote the comprehensive revitalization of rural areas. Moving forward towards the established goals, China will contribute more wisdom and inspiration to the sustainable development of rural areas worldwide. (New Society)
