As we all know, in 1950, Zhang Guohua was ordered to lead the Eighteenth Army into Xizang, which contributed to the peaceful liberation of Tibet; In 1962, he commanded a victory in the self-defense counterattack against India; In 1972, he unfortunately passed away due to a sudden heart attack while presiding over a conference. He worked in Tibet for 17 years with outstanding military achievements and extraordinary contributions. But his story with the 18th Army goes far beyond that. Originally, the Eighteenth Army was supposed to be stationed in the rich south of Sichuan. The Central Committee decided to send the Eighteenth Army to carry out the historical task of liberating Xizang based on comprehensive consideration of the actual situation. Faced with enjoying the fruits of victory and fighting again, the prosperous southern Sichuan and the barren plateau, the reunion of loved ones, and the separation again, the soldiers of the 18th Army decisively chose the latter. In the process of entering Tibet, Zhang Guohua's 3-year-old daughter, "Nannan", unfortunately died early, becoming the smallest "martyr" of the Eighteenth Army.
