The ancient humanistic wisdom 'enlightens' the future Mozi Luban culture and revitalizes it
2025-10-22
In the current era of rapid iteration of artificial intelligence technology, we must be particularly vigilant against the misconception of 'efficiency only'. Wang Xuedian, a member of the Standing Committee of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and Dean of the Institute of Confucianism at Shandong University, recently held the 15th Mozi Luban Academic Seminar and the 10th Mozi Luban Science and Technology Culture Festival, stating that while technology develops, ethical principles, value orientation, and other humanistic cores should be integrated into the framework of artificial intelligence technology research and development, achieving a deep integration of the 'temperature' of humanities and the 'accuracy' of natural sciences. From October 17th to 19th, the 15th Mozi Luban Academic Symposium and the 10th Mozi Luban Science and Technology Culture Festival were held in Tengzhou City, Shandong Province. Renowned scientists, humanities and natural science scholars, outstanding engineers, and national craftsmen from home and abroad gathered together to discuss the contemporary value of Mozi Luban culture. In the opinion of Sun Xiaochun, an academician of the International Academy of Science History and a professor of the University of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the more science develops, the more humanistic support is needed. No matter how advanced technology is, 'people' will always be the core and fundamental. Looking towards the future, we need to not only consider how to make machines truly serve human needs, but also delve into the essence, value, and ethical boundaries of human beings in the wave of artificial intelligence, "said Sun Xiaochun. The theme of this seminar is "Integrated Development of Mozi Luban Cultural Heritage and Contemporary Humanities and Natural Sciences from the Perspective of the 'Four Global Initiatives'", with 8 sub topics, 5 main conferences, and 6 themed activities set up simultaneously. At the opening ceremony, the latest research achievements in Mohism and interdisciplinary research projects in the humanities and natural sciences of Mozi Luban were released, injecting new vitality and momentum into Mohism research. At the meeting, the Shandong Province Humanities and Natural Sciences Collaborative Innovation Laboratory was officially established. It is reported that the laboratory aims to meet the major needs and frontiers of collaborative innovation between humanities and natural sciences, and has set up four key research directions: "Artificial Intelligence for Good and Inclusive Sharing", "Integrated Development of Humanities and Natural Sciences", "Cultural Value Cognition, Production and Communication of Human Machine Collaboration", and "Artificial Intelligence Empowering the Construction of a Cultural Power". Taking the Qilu Cultural Digital Communication Project as a demonstration, the laboratory promotes the application and practice of AI generation, virtual real interaction and other technologies in Qilu cultural heritage, folk customs, and regional narrative scenes such as Mozi and Luban, realizes the deep restoration and intelligent dissemination of digital content, and creates a "Digital Qilu" sample with regional recognition and cultural depth. The laboratory was established under the promotion of Shandong University, aiming to build it into an innovative highland that deeply integrates technology and humanities within 3 to 5 years. As the birthplace of Mozi's Luban culture, Shandong has taken root in history and rooted itself in the times in recent years. It has vigorously implemented a systematic excavation, organization, and modernization research and interpretation project of Moban literature, weaving the spiritual fragments scattered in the long river of history back into perceptible cultural life forms. In 1990, Tengzhou City established the first domestic Mohism research institution, the Mozi Research Center; In 1992, Tengzhou and Shandong University jointly established the "Chinese Mozi Society"... For more than 30 years, scholars have been deeply cultivating the "roots" of Mozi Luban culture and decoding its wisdom. The Mozi Luban Academic Symposium serves as an important platform for promoting Mozi Luban culture and advancing the research of Mohism and Luban skills. The Mozi Luban Science and Technology Culture Festival, as an important carrier for inheriting the spirit of innovation and promoting the integration of technology and culture in the new era, has effectively promoted the creative transformation and innovative development of traditional Chinese science and technology culture, and has become the most well-known and influential "golden signboard" in the field of world Mohism research.
