2025-10-21
On the shores of Furong Lake at Xiamen University, the Xiamen University Museum of Humanity stands quietly. It is the first university museum in the history of New China and the only specialized museum in Chinese Mainland that integrates anthropology, archaeology and ethnology. Wang Yinghui, the director of the Xiamen University Archives and the director of the Cultural and Museum Management Center, told reporters that the establishment of the Xiamen University Museum of Humanity cannot be separated from the care and support of Mr. Xu Beihong. Lin Huixiang, the first director of the Museum of Anthropology at Xiamen University, is good friends with Xu Beihong. In 1939, Lin Huixiang, the first graduate of Xiamen University, met Xu Beihong in Singapore for anti Japanese relief work and formed a deep friendship. After the victory of the War of Resistance Against Japan, Lin Huixiang returned to teach at Xiamen University and donated thousands of cultural relics, specimens, and books collected and collected by himself to the school in 1952, establishing the Museum of Humanity. In January 1953, Xu Beihong heard that the Museum of Anthropology at Xiamen University was established under the guidance of his close friend Lin Huixiang. He was greatly inspired and not only gifted the museum with his own painting "The Rooster" and several other precious calligraphy and painting pieces, but also personally inscribed the museum's nameplate. The "Rooster Picture" hanging on the first floor of the Human Museum of Xiamen University tells the story of this touching past. Xiamen University has launched the Chinese style film 'Rooster' and AR/VR interactive experience. By scanning the QR code next to the artwork, visitors can enjoy the 3D ink painting through AR/VR technology. Wang Yinghui introduced, "We are collaborating with the Film School of Xiamen University to use 3D ink painting technology and digital human technology to allow visitors to immerse themselves in the story of 'The Rooster' and Xiamen University. Through this, we express our deep respect to Director Lin Huixiang and Mr. Xu Beihong, and hope to pass on their patriotic spirit and national integrity. ”Whenever I talk about the patriotic stories behind cultural relics, my heart surges with excitement. ”Zhou Yichi, a second year graduate student at the School of History and Cultural Heritage of Xiamen University, has been a tour guide since his junior year. "Because of my participation in the tour, I began to explore the stories behind cultural relics and strive to make the tour more in-depth." In recent years, the Xiamen University Museum of Humanity has received over 300000 visitors annually, becoming a cultural check-in spot for faculty, students, and the general public. The museum has created a VR panoramic online exhibition hall and a three-dimensional image display system for cultural relics, digitizing exhibitions and making cultural relics 3D, forming a "memorable resource library". At the "Museum Night" event, the exhibition hall was decorated with footprint illustrations of "magical animals", ranging from the majestic animal face decoration on the Shang Dynasty's gluttonous patterned copper tripod to the beautiful peacock on the porcelain vase with peacock plum pattern pasted on the Ge glazed iron sand pile. Under the guidance of a guide dressed in Hanfu and holding lanterns, the audience searched for hidden animal elements in the collection of cultural relics and embarked on a unique cultural exploration journey. The museum has also developed a science popularization course called "Fun Four Seasons - Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter in Xiamen University Cultural Relics", which combines the 24 solar terms with cultural relics. Volunteers selected cultural relics closely related to the solar terms in the museum collection, and introduced the origin, history, customs, and other aspects of the 24 solar terms through interesting pictures and videos, 3D images of cultural relics, self-made postcards, and reenactment of daily life scenes, making cultural relics a tangible and perceptible part of daily life. The solar terms are so interesting, I'm ready to study them carefully. ”Listening to catchy songs and looking at the postcard with the "Rain Water" solar term written on it and the "Clear Xiu Jade Frog" printed on it, Xue Yuhan, a student at Yanwu Elementary School in Xiamen, said. The Human Museum of Xiamen University today, as stated in Xu Beihong's cursive script "Observing Humanities, Transforming the World" in the exhibition hall, is becoming a knowledge paradise for people to observe humanities, learn history, and understand etiquette.
