Vientiane News: Experts from the 13th batch of Chinese military medical teams assisting the elderly recently performed retinal detachment reduction surgery on a Laotian patient at Hospital 103 in Vientiane, the capital of Laos. They used the latest Chinese patent FCB balloon, which was transmitted across the border by multiple people from China and Laos. It is understood that the patient is at risk of blindness due to retinal detachment caused by retinal tears and urgently needs surgical treatment. However, due to the posterior position of the patient's retinal hole, traditional external surgery is difficult to complete, and internal surgery combining vitrectomy and silicone oil filling cannot be performed for various reasons. At this moment, the captain of the medical team, Du Hongjun, thought of the FCB balloon with Chinese intellectual property rights. This product can be implanted into deeper positions through a small conjunctival incision, and then injected with water to form a top pressure, thereby treating retinal detachment behind the hole. However, there is currently no such product in Laos, and the price is relatively high. In order to save the patient's vision, Du Hongjun immediately communicated with relevant Chinese companies. After learning about the patient's special circumstances, the company decided to give away two free balloons for surgery. However, cross-border railway transportation takes at least 7 to 10 days, and the patient's condition cannot be delayed. How to transport patients across borders is a new problem faced by medical teams and patients. At this time, a Laotian official who was visiting China expressed willingness to provide assistance upon learning of the matter. In the end, through the relay of 8 people, the balloon was transported across the border within two days, buying valuable time for the surgery. At the moment of receiving the balloon, Du Hongjun excitedly said, "This balloon is not just a surgical consumable, but also a 'token' of friendship and cooperation between China and Laos." On the day of the surgery, the medical team successfully completed the surgery for the patient under local anesthesia with superb skills. On the first day after surgery, the examination showed that the patient's retina had returned well and the black shadow in front of the eyes had completely disappeared. The patient tightly grasped the hand of the medical team and excitedly said, "It's a 'small balloon' from China that solved my 'big problem' and allowed me to see the world again. Thank you to the Chinese medical team, thank you to everyone who participated in balloon delivery and surgery." It is reported that this surgery is the first time the product has been used in Laos, opening up a new field of retinal detachment treatment in Laos. This relay across mountains and rivers and successful treatment not only demonstrates the international value of China's medical technology innovation, but also further deepens the medical cooperation and traditional friendship between China and Laos. Experts from the medical team stated that they will continue to safeguard the health of the Laotian people with professionalism and responsibility, allowing China's innovative achievements and the friendship between China and Laos to shine together on the banks of the Mekong River.
