The recently premiered dance drama "Yongle Weiyang" in Beijing presents a visual feast for the audience with a unique artistic perspective and profound cultural connotations. At the seminar after the premiere, experts had high hopes for the play, hoping to create a new paradigm of stage aesthetics. Yongle Palace is a famous architectural complex of the Yuan Dynasty in China, renowned both domestically and internationally for its preservation of large-scale and complete layout of Taoist architecture from the Yuan Dynasty, as well as large-scale and exquisite murals from the Yuan Dynasty. In 1956, Sanmenxia Reservoir was constructed, and Yongle Palace was located within the planned inundation area. In order to protect this precious cultural treasure, the country has decided to relocate and protect it as a whole. The dance drama "Yongle Weiyang" takes the relocation project of Yongle Palace as the core narrative thread, cleverly integrating the four aesthetics of "ancient architecture, murals, glass, and inheritance" into the plot, bringing dormant cultural relics to life in the art of dance. Chen Jianzu, an expert in the National Art Fund's expert database, pointed out that the repertoire is impressive in terms of dance, scenery, and music, especially the stunning part of "Zaojing Tuan Long". He suggested that the relationship between historical truth and artistic truth should be handled well, and music can establish a unique and widely folk music style; In terms of dance, it is possible to consider adding female solo dances appropriately to showcase the artistic advantages and styles of Eastern China and enrich the visual beauty of the stage. Professor Gao Yuandong from the Department of Chinese Language and Literature at Peking University believes that from the perspective of the audience, the live viewing effect of the play is stunning. The play uses dance language to restore the mural art, architectural art, and other aspects of Yongle Palace in a "museum style" manner, which is very outstanding. He believes that the theme can be further elaborated from the narrative level, exploring the deep meaning of "observing the beauty of the New Year and sharing the beauty of Dan Qing", and focusing on the emotional resonance between Yongle Palace art and ancient and modern times. Ou Jianping, Honorary Director and Researcher of the Dance Research Institute of the China Academy of Arts, suggested highlighting the presentation of folk beliefs, culture, and customs in Yongle Palace, enhancing the organic connection between group dance performances, creating one or two high-quality dance segments that can be independently spread, and strengthening the artistic sense of the dance images and the color sense of Yongle Palace. At the same time, the performance of the play can be accompanied by lectures, exhibitions, and further planning of live performances, turning it into a cultural event. Deng Youling, Vice President and Professor of Beijing Dance Academy, stated that the creation of "Yongle Weiyang" has pioneered a new model of integration with local culture and tourism, attracting more attention to Shanxi, Ruicheng, and Yongle Palace. The arrangement of the play incorporates many local folk elements, which is refreshing. In the future, we hope that the play will continue to refine its parallel narration of ancient and modern lines, while creating unique dance vocabulary and segments that are unique to the play. We will further explore the Chinese culture, philosophical ideas, and aesthetic connotations expressed in the murals of Yongle Palace, and create a new paradigm of stage aesthetics for "Yongle Weiyang". The dance drama "Yongle Weiyang" is produced by China Eastern Performing Arts Group Co., Ltd., Shanxi Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, Shanxi Provincial Cultural Relics Bureau, and Ruicheng County People's Government, and will embark on a national tour thereafter.
