Recently, the performance of "Hanging Paintings" arranged and performed by Zhejiang Wuju Art Research Institute won rounds of applause from the audience on site. The drama showcases the dynamic beauty of traditional Chinese opera with exquisite skills. Wu Opera, with a history of over 500 years, has been continuously innovated by several generations of artists. Its traditional repertoire and singing music have become more diverse, and its performance has a strong local flavor. It emphasizes martial arts, multiple special effects, and is good at exaggeration, especially in the arts and martial arts. Its six vocal styles and singing tunes are colorful and varied. There are over 500 plays and thousands of pieces, with distinct historical and regional characteristics, and it is praised by experts and scholars as the "Museum of Ming and Qing Opera Culture". At that time, Tian Han, the chairman of the Chinese Dramatists Association, once wrote a poem praising: "Pure jade and pure gold are still to be sought after, and heroic children can enter Yan You. The eastern part of Zhejiang is not only beautiful in mountains and rivers, but also has a new voice that speaks of Wuzhou." Represented by Chen Meilan, the winner of the Chinese drama "Second Plum Blossom", the new generation of Wu Opera people are committed to innovation. Through the creation and arrangement of new plays such as "Kunlun Girl", "Dreams of Breaking the Wu River", youth versions of "Mu Guiying" and "Iron Blood Red Beauty", they have inherited the traditional characteristics of Wu Opera and pushed the art of Wu Opera to a higher level. In June 2008, Wu Opera was approved by the State Council to be included in the second batch of national intangible cultural heritage list. In May 2020, it was selected as one of the first batch of "Zhejiang Cultural imprints". (New Society)
