The academic conference on "Newly Discovered Warring States, Qin and Han Bamboo Slips in Jingzhou Region and Chinese Historical Civilization" was held on October 14th in Jingzhou City, Hubei Province. Industry experts gathered to summarize the forefront of research on bamboo slips unearthed in Jingzhou in recent years, aiming to further expand the connotation of Chu culture and increase the protection and inheritance of cultural heritage. Jingzhou bamboo slips are truly an encyclopedia of the Warring States, Qin, and Han dynasties. ”Yang Kaiyong, the director of Jingzhou Museum, introduced that more than 4100 Chu bamboo slips were unearthed in Jingzhou, accounting for about 32% of the country's total and 64% of Hubei's total; More than 1200 Qin bamboo slips, accounting for 4% of the country and 51% of Hubei Province; During the Western Han Dynasty, there were over 11000 water saturated bamboo slips, accounting for 14% of the national total and 82% of Hubei Province. The "most" of Jingzhou bamboo slips include the earliest multiplication mnemonic, Chu bamboo slips, and the "Nine Nine Techniques". Organic cultural relics represented by bamboo slips are the most difficult problem in the protection of textured cultural relics. In recent years, the Jingzhou Cultural Relics Protection Center has completed the dehydration work of more than 140000 bamboo and wood slips, and the restoration of saturated bamboo slips accounts for more than 90% of the country's total. In the bamboo slips restoration room at the center, the illegible handwriting can reappear, and the dried and deformed bamboo slips become moist, swollen, and rejuvenated. Fang Beisong, director of Jingzhou Cultural Relics Protection Center, introduced that the restoration of bamboo slips includes preliminary cleaning, infrared scanning, decolorization treatment, dehydration reinforcement and other steps. This work is closely related to the interpretation and research of ancient Chinese characters and the display of cultural relics. At present, the center is repairing 36000 bamboo slips of various types nationwide, including about 10000 bamboo slips from Jingzhou. Chen Wei, director of the Bamboo and Silk Research Center at Wuhan University, used the example of Zhangjiashan Han bamboo slips and Hujiacaochang Western Han bamboo slips unearthed in Jingzhou to point out that bamboo slips have become the main historical basis in research fields such as the legal system. Huang Dekuan, Director of the Research and Protection Center for Excavated Documents at Tsinghua University, stated that Jingzhou is located in the core area of the prosperous development of Jingchu's historical and cultural heritage. It has preserved an immeasurable amount of Jingchu cultural heritage, especially the numerous archaeological discoveries of Warring States, Qin and Han bamboo slips, the long time span, and the unparalleled importance of their types, providing extremely precious records for a comprehensive understanding of Chinese historical civilization. This academic conference is jointly hosted by the Chinese Culture Promotion Association, the Jingzhou Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China, and the Jingzhou Municipal People's Government.
