On the 13th, the World Health Organization released the "2025 Global Antibiotic Resistance Monitoring Report" and warned that the problem of commonly used antibiotic resistance is widespread worldwide, and the exacerbation of basic antibiotic resistance poses an increasingly serious threat to global health. The report states that in 2023, one sixth of laboratory confirmed bacterial infections causing common infections worldwide will develop resistance to antibiotic treatment. Between 2018 and 2023, over 40% of monitored pathogens showed an increase in antibiotic resistance to antibiotic combinations, with an average annual growth rate of 5% to 15%. The report collected data from over 100 countries and for the first time published estimates of resistance rates to 22 antibiotics used for the treatment of urinary and gastrointestinal infections, bloodstream infections, and gonorrhea. The report covers 8 common bacterial pathogens, including Acinetobacter baumannii and Escherichia coli, each of which is associated with one or more of the aforementioned infections. The report specifically points out that drug-resistant Gram negative bacteria are becoming increasingly dangerous worldwide. These severe bacterial infections often lead to sepsis, organ failure, and death. (New Society)
