2025-10-14

On the morning of October 13th, the second and third volumes of the Warring States silk books "Five Elements Order" and "Attack, Defense, and Occupation" from the Changsha Bullet Depot, which had been lost overseas for 79 years, officially returned to their homeland and were collected in the Hunan Provincial Museum. The Warring States period silk book from the Bullet Depot is the earliest and first silk book discovered in China in the sense of a classic text. It was excavated in 1942 from the Chu Tomb in the Bullet Depot in Changsha, Hunan and scattered overseas in 1946. Through the cooperation between China and the United States on the return of cultural relics, on May 18th of this year, the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of Asian Art returned the "Five Elements Order" and "Attack, Defense, and Occupation" to Beijing and returned to the motherland. Now, the National Cutural Heritage Administration has officially allocated it to the Hunan Provincial Museum for collection, completing the process of cultural relics from loss to return, from return to home.
