The New Zealand Beautiful Short Film Festival kicked off on the evening of the 7th in Auckland, New Zealand. As the honored guest country of this year's film festival, China has been invited to participate in the screening for the first time. There are a total of 8 Chinese short films participating in the exhibition, including the fantasy films "It's Better to Go Home" and "The Last Wolf Dream", the science fiction film "The Remaining Man", the drama film "Finding Friends", the comedy film "Turning to Artificial", as well as the animated films "Door God", "Liqiu" and "Help Me Tom". Among them, the animated short film "Help Me Tom" directed by Yang Jiahang was selected for the "Selected Highlights" section of the film festival's exhibition in 40 cinemas across New Zealand. During the film festival, Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch will hold special sessions on Chinese themes, showcasing these Chinese short films in a concentrated manner. Gina Delabaka, the director of the film festival, expressed her pleasure in leading the audience to explore unique films that showcase the contemporary Chinese style. These short films are full of creativity, blending traditional elements with modern concepts. We believe that the audience will love our carefully planned screening collection. Wang Jianwen, Director of the Auckland Chinese Cultural Center, stated in his speech that as a transnational art form, film plays multiple roles in international cultural exchange. The same goes for short films. They promote intercultural dialogue through visual storytelling, bringing people closer to each other. We look forward to the Chinese short films showcased in this unit becoming a window for New Zealand audiences to perceive the vivid face of contemporary China and the Chinese people. The Xiumei Short Film Festival is the largest and most influential international short film festival in New Zealand.
