Chinese enterprises develop intelligent equipment to help Saudi Arabia achieve its' 2030 Vision '

On the west coast of the Red Sea in Saudi Arabia, above lush mangrove forests, a flying bridge is gradually extending under the traction of a red steel structure pile beam integrated machine. This is the first time that a pile beam integrated machine has been put into use in the Middle East region. By using this independently developed intelligent bridge building equipment, we can protect the local ecology while constructing the bridge, "said Li Weiwei, project manager of the Saudi Arabia Red Sea La Hek Connection Road and Cross Sea Bridge Project. The Red Sea region of Saudi Arabia has abundant biodiversity. Under the "2030 Vision", Saudi Arabia is fully committed to building a Red Sea tourism project with "green ecology" as its highlight, constructing a comprehensive tourism new city with 50 hotels, over 1000 residences, and 1 international airport. The Lahk Connection Road and Cross Sea Bridge project is constructed by China Harbour Engineering Group and implemented by China Communications Fourth Navigation Bureau. The project connects multiple tourist islands, including two small bridges, one large bridge, one super large bridge, and permanent embankments. The key section of the main bridge, which is 2170 meters long, crosses a mangrove forest covering an area of about 30000 square meters. If the traditional construction plan is followed, whether it is to build a steel wharf or to use pile driving boats for pile foundation construction, it will inevitably have an impact on the mangrove forest. After multiple discussions, the project team proposed a solution of "fully prefabricated structure bridge+pile beam integrated machine". The scheme for fully prefabricated structural bridges comes from the construction experience of Xiong'an. Li Weiwei participated in the construction of the Rongwu Expressway new line in Xiong'an New District. At that time, the team used the "F" - shaped beam block prefabrication scheme, which effectively improved efficiency. In the construction of the third bridge project, the team further optimized the plan, reduced the weight of individual beams, and achieved coordination and cooperation with the bridge erecting machine. The bridge building equipment is like a 'building block master' in the air, "Li Weiwei said." It can easily lift prefabricated beams weighing up to 200 tons and assemble them accurately. "The staff worked on site. At the construction site, People's Daily reporter Guan Kejiang saw that there were six "legs" on both sides of the pile beam integrated machine, which stably supported the 600 ton main equipment. Pile ahead, frame beams behind, and then "stretch your legs" forward in an orderly manner. Yang Wu, the leader of the project pile beam integrated machine work team, said, "Traditional bridge building techniques usually start with pile driving, reproduce the pouring of columns and cover beams, and then erect beams and slabs. By using new equipment, we have successfully achieved the integration of pile driving, beam erection and other functions, and the construction efficiency can reach 3 to 5 times that of traditional processes." To ensure the stability of the operation, the construction party has developed an intelligent control system that monitors the stress situation of each leg in real time through 12 sensors. We adopted the fixed distance walking method, combined with hydraulic fine-tuning technology, to accurately control the walking distance of each step within 600 millimeters, ultimately achieving an accuracy of no more than 5 millimeters for the automated walking of the pile frame, "said Li Weiwei. Li Weiwei said that the pile beam all-in-one machine is specially developed for the Red Sea tourism project, and its name "Red Sea Vision 1" represents China's wishes for the project: "The Red Sea tourism project is a landmark project to jointly build the" the Belt and Road "initiative and connect with Saudi Arabia's" Vision 2030 ". We will actively demonstrate the capabilities of Chinese enterprises and make our own contributions to the smooth progress of the project." It was reported that since it was put into use in June this year, the bridge erection equipment has successfully completed a number of major nodes: the first double T beam erection, the first PHC pile sinking, the first prefabricated capping beam installation, the bridge deck connection of the bridge section next to the mangrove shallow water area, etc. According to the plan, the main bridge will be closed in February 2026. John, Senior Construction Director of the Owner's Project, said, "The 'Made in China' equipment not only improves the construction efficiency on site, but also effectively protects the mangrove forest in the work area, reflecting the green construction concept and social responsibility of Chinese enterprises, and setting a benchmark for green construction in the Red Sea region
