The biennial World Bus Expo was held in Brussels, Belgium from October 4th to 9th. About 550 companies from around the world showcased innovative achievements such as zero emission vehicles, intelligent transportation, and new generation batteries, showcasing the latest developments in public transportation electrification and digitization. According to the number of exhibitors, Türkiye ranked first with 107 exhibitors. China has surpassed Germany for the first time, ranking second with over 80 companies, while Germany ranks third with 68 companies. Local European car companies are releasing new products at this exhibition. Daimler Bus from Germany brings 8 exhibition cars, its world's first intercity pure electric model to be publicly unveiled; MAN Group in Germany has released its first pure electric bus developed by a large European bus manufacturer; Scania, a Swedish company, has released a new high floor battery electric bus and coach platform for intercity and long-distance scenarios. The gathering of Chinese bus manufacturers at this exhibition demonstrates a high level of attention to the European market. China Yutong Bus Co., Ltd. showcased four pure electric vehicle models and multiple cutting-edge technologies such as "vehicle electric life matching" (the technology that matches the battery life with the vehicle's service life), covering many scenarios such as urban trunk transportation, intercity travel, and high-end bus tourism, becoming the focus of the scene. In the "World Bus Awards" held by the exhibition organizer, Yutong not only won the "Best Bus Award of the Year" and "Best Bus Award of the Year", but also won awards in the fields of safety and environmental protection. Mark Van Hout, the chairman of the judging panel for the World Bus Awards, stated that Chinese car companies continue to innovate and deserve the honor. He cited a long-distance bus from Yutong as an example, pointing out that the seats of the bus are equipped with massage and heating functions, the front seat backrests are embedded with independent screens, and there is a dedicated phone holder, which enriches the passenger's travel experience. These are things we haven't seen in Europe yet, "he said. The success of Chinese car companies also motivates European bus manufacturers to consider further innovation at the product level. BYD unveiled three pure electric vehicle models at this exhibition, including two 12 meter long electric buses and one 18 meter long electric articulated vehicle, all equipped with intelligent driving assistance systems and featuring its independently developed blade batteries with high safety and long lifespan. Li Ke, Executive Vice President of BYD, stated that BYD's new electric buses are constantly undergoing technological iteration and innovation, expanding their production scale and service support in Europe, adding new impetus to the sustainable development of public transportation in Europe. Currently, BYD has put into operation over 5000 pure electric buses in Europe, covering 26 countries and more than 160 cities, with a total operating mileage of 650 million kilometers, equivalent to helping reduce carbon emissions by 690000 tons. Xiamen Jinlong United Automobile Industry Co., Ltd. exhibited four models of buses: large buses, high-end coaches, autonomous buses, and box trucks. Among them, the Jinlong autonomous driving bus is quite eye-catching, equipped with spacious and comfortable seats, multiple intelligent interactive screens, etc. Visitors stop to observe and inquire about the development of related technologies. The head of the company's autonomous bus technology research and development stated that the exhibited models are equipped with a full vehicle intelligent system, which is L4 level autonomous driving and can automatically respond to complex traffic scenarios. In addition to showcasing the entire vehicle, Chinese companies in the bus industry chain are also attracting attention, bringing pure electric component solutions including batteries, motors, electronic controls, electric drive axles, as well as products such as air conditioning, seats, and car switches.
