Appearing at the Changchun Aviation Exhibition, parachuting into the Mianyang Science and Technology Expo, and settling in the Lingnan National Defense Education Base... Recently, the "Nantianmen Plan" has received widespread attention from aviation technology enthusiasts. As an aviation themed science fiction IP constructed by AVIC, the "Nantianmen Plan" is based on the current status of China's aviation technology and boldly envisions a future air combat system. Some military scholars believe that this plan is not simply an imagination, but a tangible future technological pull. In the history of human technology, many scientific research achievements are closely related to science fiction. The works of science fiction writers such as Larry Niven directly inspired the American Star Wars program; The handheld communicator in the movie Star Trek provided some inspiration for the design of Motorola smartphones; The movie Terminator 2 inspired the US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) to study "programmable materials" that can change shape on their own according to commands. Technological innovation requires forward-looking research on technological trends, such as exploring new technological concepts and application scenarios, demonstrating their feasibility and implementation pathways, and finding future technological research and development routes. The essence of science fiction is based on scientific principles, boldly speculating and assuming the development of technology and its impact on humanity. Science fiction writers can propose more imaginative and groundbreaking technological concepts and application scenarios from a perspective different from that of scientists, providing inspiration and direction for technological innovation. As Shi Yigong, president of West Lake University and academician of the CAS Member, said: "Today's' imagination 'is likely to be tomorrow's' creativity' and the acquired 'productivity'." The powerful scientific and technological countries in the United States and Europe attach great importance to the introduction of science fiction thinking into scientific research. DARPA once invited renowned science fiction writer Isaac Asimov to provide suggestions for the development of anti missile technology. Another science fiction writer in the United States, Gregory Benford, has served as a consultant for multiple research institutions such as NASA. In 2018, France established an innovation agency modeled after DARPA, which included a dedicated team composed of several science fiction writers. China's technological innovation increasingly requires science fiction imagination. Currently, in some key technological fields, China has achieved a leap from following and merging to leading. The main change from following to leading is that there are no longer any goals to catch up with, and one can only explore the direction of the future on their own. Therefore, the more China leads the world in the field of science and technology, the more it needs to conduct forward-looking research and consider integrating science fiction into the process of technological innovation. In recent years, China's science fiction industry has developed rapidly, producing a group of high-level science fiction writers and giving birth to many high-quality science fiction works such as "The Three Body Problem" and "The Wandering Earth". In 2023 and 2024, the industry's revenue exceeded 100 billion yuan for two consecutive years. Chinese science fiction people have the ability, and it is also time to use their imagination to nourish and empower technological innovation. Predicting the future is the key to leading it forward. We believe that China's technological innovation and science fiction industry will mutually promote and work together. More and more science fiction writers will participate in technological innovation, becoming "prophets" of China's technological development, and China's technological innovation will also turn more and more science fiction imaginations into reality.
