China's communication industry needs to achieve a key leap from "connectivity" to "empowerment"

At the 2025 China International Information and Communication Exhibition, a blueprint for the development of the communication industry will be woven from various technological application scenarios. In my opinion, the core of the future communication industry lies in using the "internet" as a solid foundation and "integration" as the fundamental path, connecting the "last mile" of AI technology from the laboratory to actual life scenarios, and making AI technology truly a new engine driving the development of the real economy. If AI is a powerful engine driving development, then communication networks are the "highway" that ensures the high-speed operation of the engine. From 5G-A and F5G-A on the ground, to near space airships and drones in the air, and to the future 6G distributed intelligent governance network, the communication industry is building an integrated three-dimensional network system of "air, land, sea". This network not only needs to be "widely connected", but also "deeply connected" and "intelligently connected", and provide ubiquitous connections and accessible computing power for the ubiquitous application of AI. So, in today's world where the wave of artificial intelligence is sweeping the globe, how can China's communication industry achieve a key leap from "connectivity" to "empowerment"? I believe that this requires sustained efforts in the following three areas. Firstly, strengthen the "standard guidance" and break down barriers between technology and application. Currently, the integration and innovation of AI and communication technology are advancing rapidly, but there are still barriers in interface standards, data formats, and protocol systems between different manufacturers and industries, resulting in "connectivity but not connectivity" and "connectivity but not smoothness". It is suggested that the leading enterprises and institutions of the industrial chain should unite upstream and downstream to accelerate the establishment of the integration standard system for AI+communication, especially in the key fields of industrial Internet, Internet of Vehicles, low altitude economy, etc., so that AI applications of different "models" can pass safely and efficiently, and reduce the difficulty of cross platform and cross system integration for all parties. Secondly, building a "shared platform" to lower the threshold for small and medium-sized enterprises to transform. From the author's research, it can be seen that computing power consumption, transformation costs for small and medium-sized enterprises, and business model innovation are all real challenges that lie ahead of the industry. Small and medium-sized enterprises are the capillaries of the real economy, but they generally face a lack of technical talent and insufficient financial strength, making it difficult for them to independently bear the high cost of AI transformation. Various regions can encourage and support leading enterprises, operators, and cloud service providers to jointly create an open and shared "AI+communication" empowerment platform, allowing small and medium-sized enterprises to call AI capabilities on demand like "plugging in and using electricity", and achieve a "ready to move in" digital transformation. This can not only greatly stimulate market vitality, but also avoid redundant construction and improve resource allocation efficiency. Thirdly, we will tackle the "deep water application zone" through scenario innovation and establish a technology verification field. From AI quality inspection of industrial Internet, driverless driving of smart mines, to full house intelligence of family scenes, China's communication industry is deeply integrated with the production process, business model and user experience of thousands of industries with unprecedented depth and breadth. This integration is driving the transformation of the communication industry from "traffic management" to "experience management", and also promoting the upgrading of the real economy from "traditional manufacturing" to "intelligent manufacturing". Various regions can promote the establishment of special projects such as "digital reality integration scenario research" to address pain points such as the reliability of AI in industrial environments and the adaptability of 5G in complex scenarios. They can support the construction of a number of digital technology demonstration application scenarios in manufacturing, energy, transportation and other fields, encourage enterprises to hone their technology in real industrial environments, and accelerate the transformation of technology from "usable" to "user-friendly". The tide surges and the river is wide, the first to sail. Standing at a new historical starting point, China's communication industry is bravely taking the lead in the AI era and will also inject a continuous stream of momentum into the high-quality development of the Chinese economy.
