Recently, after being prosecuted by the Zengdu District Procuratorate of Suizhou City, Hubei Province, the court sentenced Xu to nine months in prison for the crime of endangering public safety by dangerous means due to negligence, and ordered him to compensate the plaintiff Gong for various economic losses of more than 49000 yuan in the criminal incidental civil lawsuit. There is a hillside in Wandian Town, Zengdu District, known locally as the "Red Slope". Every year from May to September, local villagers make an appointment to go to "Hongpo" to pick wild mushrooms. On the evening of September 25, 2023, Gong, as usual, made an appointment with his companions to go up the mountain to pick up mushrooms. However, he was knocked down by the power grid laid along the way and fell to a stone in the waist. The next day, Gong reported to the public security organs and went to the hospital for treatment. After appraisal, the degree of injury to Gong was classified as minor injury level two. After investigation, Xu purchased tools such as wire online to assemble a power grid for catching wild rabbits for consumption, and laid it on the "red slope". Without any warning signs, the power was turned on every night from seven or eight o'clock. According to Xu's confession, he had previously caught wild rabbits using this method. On May 15, 2024, after the investigation by the public security organs was concluded, Xu was transferred to the Zengdu District Procuratorate for examination and prosecution on suspicion of illegal hunting. After examination, the Zengdu District Procuratorate believes that Xu had previously used the power grid to capture a wild rabbit. Knowing the harm of the power grid, Xu should have foreseen and had foreseen that his installation of the power grid could cause harm such as electric shock and injury. However, he believed that it could be avoided by cutting off power during the day and turning on power at night, resulting in Gong's electric shock injury. His behavior constitutes the crime of endangering public safety by dangerous means due to negligence. On February 24, 2025, the court filed a public prosecution against Xu.
