Zhejiang: Application of artificial intelligence technology in the "replacement of old and new" of railway elevated bridges

2025-09-11

On the early morning of September 10th, at the construction site of Keqiao Station on Shaoxing Intercity Railway in Zhejiang Province, a steel box girder with a total weight of over 4000 tons was successfully positioned accurately using artificial intelligence (AI) technology, marking a milestone in the application of AI technology for beam replacement on operating railway bridges and providing a new solution for the renovation and upgrading of existing railways in China. The Shaoxing Intercity Railway is a cross city regional intercity railway transformed from the existing Xiaoyong Railway. Among them, Keqiao Station is a newly built station on the line and the first elevated intercity station added to the operating railway in China. This beam replacement construction is a key control project for the construction of Keqiao Station. During the construction period, the project team successfully overcame multiple difficulties such as large cross interference and tight operation time. They successfully pushed out a 4-span old beam with a total weight of 4086 tons and simultaneously pushed in a 5-span new beam with a total weight of 4389.6 tons. After the new beam was in place, the height difference and vertical and horizontal deviation were controlled within 2 millimeters and 3 millimeters, respectively. (New Society)
